Biden Accused Of Sitting Without A Chair, Video Disproves Claim

On June 6, 2024, a blog post from an anonymous X account known as "Sprinter Family" claimed that Joe Biden attempted to sit on an imaginary chair. This account has been fact-checked by AFP multiple times for sharing false information.

This blog post features a picture captured from X on the 6th of June in the year 2024.

The blog post shows a quick video of Biden in the middle of First Lady Jill Biden and the French President Emmanuel Macron, in a position as if he is about to take a seat.

The video spread rapidly on X in various languages, boosted by right-leaning personalities like Kyle Becker, a commentator, and Jeanine Pirro, a host on Fox News.

The leader of our country attempted to act as if sitting on a chair that does not exist while on stage in front of the global audience. The lights were on, yet Joe Biden was not present. It was beyond embarrassing... The absence of an actual chair was the biggest issue! The above statement was written by Pirro but has since been removed.

Some well-known conservative figures, such as the Hodgetwins and Dave Rubin, claimed that Biden had an incident involving his bowel movements that he couldn't control.

However, these statements are not true. They are simply misinformation intended to paint the 81-year-old Democrat as being mentally weak, confused, and unfit to guide the country in the upcoming presidential election in November.

Just before the speech of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at an event honoring the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, that marked the time when tons of Allied troops surged onto the shores of Normandy in the north of France to combat Nazi Germany, which indeed was critically significant for World War II, the incident I am about to speak of occurred.

The entire live video of the event was made available by The Times, which is a newspaper based in Britain. The footage reveals that Biden commenced the act of sitting down as soon as the music stopped. However, he paused briefly to allow for Austin's introduction before continuing to sit. You can find the video archived here.

When they called out Austin's name, along with the French president and first lady, Biden made sure to take a seat. However, in an edited clip that's been circulating online, the part where Biden eventually sat down is missing.

Images captured at the occasion also display Biden resting on his seat.

Biden made a speech following Austin's, wherein he emphasized the significance of global partnerships, as exemplified by D-Day. He also voiced his unwavering support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, which was a clear dig at his former opponent in the election, Donald Trump. The ex-president has made remarks publicly that question the relevance of entities like NATO.

According to Biden, we are currently facing a time where democracy is greatly threatened all over the world, more so than any other time since the conclusion of the Second World War.

AFP reached out to the White House for a statement, but did not receive a reply.

AFP has proven many wrongly interpreted videos of Biden wrong in other instances, listed as here, here, here and here.
