Joan Collins on why she turned down date with Frank Sinatra
What Did You Overlook?
At the age of 91, Dame Joan Collins has an abundance of tales to share. However, one particular story that caught attention during her visit to The One Show was her alleged date with Frank Sinatra — which she refers to as "the date that never was."
The acclaimed actress, known for her role in the popular soap opera Dynasty, appeared on The One Show to talk about her participation in the new BBC Two program Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar.
However, hosts Roman Kemp and Alex Jones couldn't help but inquire with Collins about the opportunity that slipped through his fingers.

“Right now, I’m working on a film in London and staying at home. One morning, my mom came in beaming with excitement, holding the phone,” Collins recounted. She went on to explain that on the other end was none other than the Legendary Frank Sinatra.
“Hey, is this Collins?” she remembers him asking. “It’s Sinatra.” He then went on to invite her to dinner, a proposal that Collins says she initially accepted. “That sounds lovely,” she remembers responding. However, when Sinatra proposed the next evening, the dedicated actress had to decline — she had an early morning commitment the next day.
To which Sinatra responded, "Alright, I'll adjust your request, kid."
"I told him, 'You can't do that,'” Collins mentioned. “I take my acting very seriously. You can't alter my commitment." Sinatra allegedly replied, “I’ll have my plane come for you,” but then clarified that the aircraft was currently in Hamburg. “I responded, ‘I'm sorry, I can’t do that,’” Collins recounted, “and then he hung up."

Even though the phone call ended quite unexpectedly, it wasn’t the final time Collins had a conversation with Sinatra. She recounted how she encountered him several times after their awkward date incident, including on the set of the 1962 film ‘The Road To Hong Kong,’ where they both appeared.

While talking about other pop culture legends such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jones shifted the topic to a previous interview with Collins, where it appeared that she had revealed her admiration for Taylor Swift!
In the interview, when she was asked about today's pop culture figures, Collins responded by mentioning Taylor Swift, as she believes Swift serves as an excellent role model for the youth.
"I admire her fashion sense and her outlook on life; I think she's a true role model," Collins mentioned. "But I've never actually met her."
However, if you believe you'll spot Collins at the Eras tour, you're in for a surprise. When Jones proposed the idea of watching the pop star, she replied, “Do you really think I'm going to attend one of those big arenas?!”
The documentary "Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar" will be broadcast on BBC Two on September 27.
