Jeremy Kyle egged on audience to boo guest Steve Dymond - inquest

Jeremy Kyle

Someone who was on The Jeremy Kyle Show tried to kill himself after being on the show. Their son said the host encouraged the audience to boo them.

It is believed that Steve Dymond, a resident of Portsmouth, passed away by suicide one week after participating in the ITV show in May 2019.

The 63-year-old underwent a polygraph test for the program following allegations of infidelity by his former partner, Jane Callaghan.

Carl Woolley, his son, explained during the inquest in Winchester that his father perceived himself as being unfairly labeled as dishonest.

Mr Woolley mentioned that he hadn't spoken to his father recently when his uncle Leslie Dymond called to inform him that his father was feeling low.

During the investigation, he mentioned that his father claimed the lie detector test labeled him as dishonest, but he personally believed his father was telling the truth.

He mentioned that his dad had told him he was being honest.

He said Mr. Dymond was extremely distressed because he felt he was being accused of lying. He felt like everyone was attacking him and he was completely overwhelmed.

During questioning at the inquiry, Rachel Spearing's attorney asked Mr. Woolley who had "attacked" him. Mr. Woolley responded by saying that Jeremy Kyle had encouraged the audience to jeer and mock him, portraying him as a liar before he could defend himself.

During the investigation, he mentioned that his father would contact him up to six times daily after the recording.

"He was doing alright sometimes, but overall feeling quite low," he went on to say.

He mentioned that he attempted to convince his father to keep receiving follow-up assistance from ITV.

He shared with me that he was receiving assistance and follow-up care from the counselors on the show.

I told him that he should reach out to them and continue calling until he received the necessary follow-up care.

During the inquest, Ms Spearing read aloud parts of a note written by Mr Dymond for his son.

He requested him "not to get angry" with him.

"I have never been unfaithful to Jane, but everyone believes I have. The real reason she doesn't trust me is because I lied to her so many times," the letter explained, heartbroken.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ms Callaghan, who was previously in a relationship with Mr Dymond, provided her testimony.

She informed the judge that they had connected on an online dating platform in May 2017 and had been in a relationship for approximately two years.

Ms Callaghan explained that the reason for the breakup was that she recently discovered that he was dishonest about his past frequently.

After their relationship ended, she mentioned that she received numerous phone calls and texts from Mr. Dymond, stating that he had been “very distressed”.

In court on February 16, 2019, it was revealed that Mr. Dymond sent a message to Ms. Callaghan expressing how much he loathes himself.

Ms Callaghan informed the court that she had familiarity with polygraph tests because she had been a guest on The Jeremy Kyle Show alongside her daughter in the past.

She mentioned that it was Mr. Dymond's choice to appear on the show in order to demonstrate that "he had not cheated."

Following the test, it was determined that the results were not clear. He explained that this was likely due to the fact that he had not been truthful in the questions asked before the test.

Neil Sheldon, the lawyer for Jeremy Kyle, asked Ms Callaghan additional questions.

He inquired if she noticed a regular occurrence of Steve threatening to hurt himself before and after the show because he was upset about the problems in their relationship.

Ms Callaghan responded with a simple "yes."

During the inquest, it was revealed that Mr. Dymond's final message to Ms. Callaghan, sent on May 6th, stated that he had never been unfaithful to her.

I pray that the Jeremy Kyle show is pleased with the way they have treated me.

They are in charge of the current situation, and I hope this leads to high ratings for them.

Mr Sheldon also inquired of Ms Callaghan whether she recalled Mr Kyle urging the crowd to applaud Mr Dymond as he exited the stage.

In his words, Leslie Dymond shared that his brother was extremely upset and overwhelmed by the events that took place during his appearance on The Jeremy Kyle Show.

"He mentioned that he was shown the results of a lie detector test that he disagreed with, and was labeled a traitor, while the host and crowd all taunted him."

Stephen confided in me that he was on the verge of passing out at the studio, yet he continued to be taunted.

He mentioned that the crowd didn't like his performance, the host Jeremy Kyle was aggressive towards him, and he was hounded by cameras and microphones as he exited the stage.

"He said the presenter mocked him and labeled him as unsuccessful."

The brother of Mr. Dymond shared a description of him in writing that was also presented during the hearing.

He talked about how, when he was young, Mr. Dymond was a committed member of the RNLI crew and took part in sea rescues.

"It was a risky job. They were courageous individuals, and Stephen was among their ranks," he remarked.

The inquest revealed that Mr. Dymond passed away due to a combination of a morphine overdose and a heart issue at his residence in Portsmouth.

The purpose of the inquest, as explained by Coroner Jason Pegg, was not to assign blame or responsibility to anyone involved in the matter.
