Trump reveals JD Vance as running mate for US election

Donald Trump has chosen an Ohio senator who previously made comparisons between him and Hitler to be his running mate for the upcoming US election in November.

In November, if Mr. Trump wins the election, JD Vance, a 39-year-old former venture capitalist, will take on the role of vice president.

The ex-leader shared the news on his online platform, Truth Social.

After graduating from Yale Law School, Mr. Vance, who hails from Ohio, made a foray into the realm of venture capitalism. He has since become a best-selling author as recognized by The New York Times.

The former member of the US Marine Corps gained recognition in 2016 with his book Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis. This memoir explores his childhood and the challenges of living in Ohio.

Mr. Vance has always been against Trump and didn't hold back his strong opinions after Trump won the election in 2016. He called Trump an "idiot" and even compared him to Hitler.

Yet, he has now transformed into a dependable ally, even appearing in court in New York to stand by the ex-president during his trial involving hush money.

He supports Mr. Trump's popular ideas and will probably be appealing to his followers - maybe even as a possible future replacement.

Mr Vance received backlash over the weekend for accusing President Joe Biden of being responsible for the assassination attempt on former President Trump that occurred on Saturday.

He said: "The main idea of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who needs to be halted no matter what."

"That language resulted in the attempted assassination of President Trump."

Mr Vance is a regular presence in conservative media and often engages in debates with reporters on Capitol Hill, positioning himself as a potential successor to Mr. Trump's leadership.

Biden: 'Vance talks a lot'

The US Vice President Kamala Harris has apparently reached out to Mr. Vance to recognize his selection as Mr. Trump's running mate.

The two did not communicate with each other, but Ms Harris left a voicemail, according to Sky News US partner network NBC News.

Joe Biden recently shared his thoughts on J.D. Vance becoming the vice-presidential candidate. He mentioned that Vance seems to support working people, but his actions, alongside Trump's, suggest otherwise. They are proposing tax increases for middle-class families while advocating for more tax cuts for the wealthy.

"I won't allow them to do that. If you're on my side, please join me."

Mr Trump made an announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Senator J.D. Vance has been chosen as the Republican vice presidential nominee. After careful consideration and reflecting on the abilities of other potential candidates, Mr Trump believes that Senator Vance is the most suitable person to be the Vice President of the United States. Senator Vance hails from Ohio.

The ex-president praised Mr. Vance for his service in the Marines and mentioned that he will now be dedicated to the American workers and farmers in several states.

The ex-president had a conversation with Mr. Vance approximately 20 minutes before the Truth Social post to officially offer him the job, according to a source who spoke with the Associated Press.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were reportedly notified on Monday that they were not chosen by Mr. Trump.

The ex US president was officially chosen as the presidential nominee for his party at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Trump is currently scheduled to compete against the current president, Mr. Biden, in the election for the presidency.
