Jay-Z and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs accused of raping girl, 13, in US lawsuit
A revised legal complaint submitted in federal court on Sunday claims that rap icons Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl at a party in 2000.
Jay-Z rejected the claims made against him on social media and criticized the lawsuit, labeling it as an effort to extort him by the plaintiff's attorney. His legal team has not yet replied to requests for a statement.
The lawsuit was initially submitted in October in the Southern District of New York, and at that point, Jay-Z wasn't included as a defendant. However, the revised complaint now refers to Jay-Z as "Celebrity A" from the original filing.
In October, Combs rejected all claims made against him, including this specific accusation. He is currently incarcerated on federal charges related to sex trafficking, to which he has entered a plea of not guilty.
The complaint claims that an unidentified girl was given drugs and assaulted by both Jay-Z and Combs during a party that Combs threw following the MTV Music Awards in 2000, which took place in New York.
Tony Buzbee, the Texas attorney representing the girl who initiated the lawsuit on Sunday, has previously filed over 20 civil suits against Combs, alleging sexual misconduct.
In an email to Reuters, Buzbee indicated that the Jay-Z lawsuit is clear and needs no further explanation.
“This is a matter of great importance that will be taken to court,” Buzbee stated.
In his updated lawsuit, Buzbee mentions that his law firm had earlier reached out to Jay-Z with a letter proposing mediation to resolve the issue.
According to the lawsuit, Jay-Z replied to that letter by taking legal action against Buzbee and allegedly plotting a harassment campaign against Buzbee and his colleagues. The lawyer claims this was a tactic intended to intimidate and silence his client.
In a social media update, Buzbee stated that the woman he was representing, who claims to have been raped, never asked Jay-Z for any money. He emphasized that her only request was for a private mediation process.
Last week, Buzbee initiated a legal action against the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, which represents Combs and Jay-Z. He claims that the firm's attorneys have been intimidating his colleagues, clients, and family members.
Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan did not reply to inquiries for a statement.
