Birmingham City made history in League One by breaking the transfer record with the acquisition of Jay Stansfield. The striker joins the team on a seven-year contract from Fulham on the final day of the transfer window.

In the previous season, Stansfield played for Birmingham on loan and managed to score 12 goals in 43 matches in the Championship league. Unfortunately, his efforts were not able to prevent Birmingham from being relegated to the third division.

Despite this setback, Birmingham continued to pursue a permanent deal and ultimately secured their target on Friday night, although it came with a hefty price tag.

Fulham will definitely get £15 million, with a chance to receive an extra £5 million, making the potential total amount £20 million.

In the past, Birmingham broke their record by spending £4m on Austrian center back Christoph Klarer earlier this summer.

Jay Stansfield is back at Birmingham City after being transferred for a record fee in League One.

Stansfield netted a total of 13 goals in the league during his loan spell at Birmingham in the previous season.

He got a goal for Fulham against Birmingham on Tuesday evening, but he has now made a permanent move back to St Andrew's.

We are thrilled to announce that Jay Stansfield has officially joined our team. ????

The 20-year-old forward has signed a contract with our team for seven years after transferring from Fulham. The exact amount of money involved in the transfer has not been disclosed.

Fulham made sure to include a 20% sell-on clause in the agreement, and added a £100,000 bonus if Birmingham gets promoted to the Championship again.

After officially completing his historic transfer, Stansfield expressed his excitement to BluesTV, saying: "I am thrilled beyond measure. This moment has been a long time in the making, I believe."

After the awards ceremony, I received a positive response from the fans despite Birmingham's difficult season as a club. Although the season didn't go as we had hoped, I felt compelled to return and face this new challenge. Being part of this incredible club and project is the right decision for me.

The agreement still needs approval from the league and Football Association, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Stansfield was in action for Fulham in their Carabao Cup match against Birmingham on Tuesday evening. He managed to score a goal in a 2-0 victory for Marco Silva's team.

However, he will be wearing a Birmingham jersey again with the goal of assisting them in getting back to the Championship in their first attempt.

Birmingham has had a great beginning to their League One season, earning seven points from three matches. This places them in fifth position in the league standings as the season gets underway.
