His mother has stated that search dogs and mountain rescue teams are now assisting in the search for her 19-year-old son who has gone missing in Tenerife.

Jay Slater, a beginner bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last in contact at approximately 08:00 BST on Monday.

Lucy, his companion on the island for the music celebration, reported that he had given her a call to express his predicament of being lost, thirsty for water and having only 1% phone battery left.

Mr Slater lost connection on his phone and the last recorded location indicated that he was in the hilly Rural de Teno National Park towards the northwestern region of the island.

There has been no communication from him since that time.

The mother named Debbie Duncan is concerned about her son and has traveled to Tenerife along with her other son. In an interview with the BBC, she shared that the Spanish authorities have sent teams of mountain rescue and trained dogs to assist in the search.

She expressed, "It's utterly dreadful. There has been a dearth of information, yet something has occurred."

Lucy went to the island with Mr. Slater for the NRG music festival. According to her, he decided to stay with some acquaintances whom he befriended during their vacation.

Nevertheless, she mentioned that Mr Slater was seemingly oblivious to the fact that they were quite far from his place of residence. Consequently, he commenced his journey back home on Monday morning by foot.

According to the BBC, she spent several hours on both Monday and Tuesday searching for him.

"It's such a vast expanse," she remarked.

The BBC was informed by a Foreign Office representative that they are providing assistance to the relatives of a British national who has been reported as gone missing in Spain. They also mentioned that they are keeping in touch with the local officials.
