The mother of a man who is currently missing in Tenerife has stated that her son was eagerly looking forward to his inaugural vacation with his buddies.

Debbie Duncan traveled to the island and expressed her distress because it has been 48 hours since anyone has heard from Jay Slater.

The young bricklaying apprentice, who is 19 years old and comes from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, parted ways with his pals during a night jaunt following the NRG music festival.

According to his family, he rode in a vehicle with two unknown individuals whom he met during the wee hours of Monday. They eventually arrived at a national park situated approximately 40 minutes away from their starting point.

Just before 9:00 AM British Summer Time on that day, the person dialed up his pal Lucy and told her that he's attempting to head back to their lodgings in Playa de las Americas, which is a 10-hour walk, but he's short of water and has a low 1% battery left on his phone.

After the call ended abruptly, Mr. Slater vanished without any further communication or appearance.

On Sunday evening, various posts on social media exhibited Mr. Slater in a happy state wearing a grey t-shirt embroidered with green patches on the shoulders.

At 07:30, he shared a photo on his blog where he was holding a cigarette while being at the place he went to with the two individuals.

The place where he was seen last is on a trail within the mountainous Rural de Teno national park situated in the north-west area of the island.

According to Ms. Duncan's statement to the BBC, she hasn't been able to get any sleep and feels like what's happening isn't really happening.

This was the first time he went on vacation overseas with his buddies and I urged him to go, expressing that he would immensely enjoy himself.

According to her, she and her son's buddies managed to figure out where he went on the night he disappeared. They concluded that he left in a car, probably around 6:00 in the morning.

On social media, Jay Slater's loved ones posted a photo that displays where he was last seen.

According to her, Jay doesn't really consume alcohol frequently, but on that particular night, he had indulged in shots and hard liquor.

Everyone enjoys spending time with him, and he was joking around with these individuals.

"He may not have noticed the potential threat, as his alertness had lapsed and he was solely focused on seeking enjoyment."

Lucy received a call from Ms Duncan's son, who seemed to be calm and not troubled by the individuals he departed with, according to Ms Duncan.

However, his acquaintance commented that it seemed like he wasn't aware of the distance he covered as he departed from the popular tourist destination located in the southern part of the island.

According to her, his companions and relatives believed he had his debit card and cash on him. Additionally, he had memorized his mom's phone number so he could contact her if he could get his hands on a phone.

According to Ms. Duncan, the police and mountain rescue teams have been tirelessly scouring the area with the help of drones and dogs in the quest to locate her son.

According to Chris Elkington, a British journalist who works as an editor for the Canarian Weekly, the area where Mr Slater was last seen is quite challenging. This information was shared with the BBC.

He mentioned that there is a park in the countryside that offers numerous hiking paths. The terrain is mostly mountainous and lacks vegetation.

To a great extent, the area is similar to a desert, characterized by numerous steep gorges and valleys.

You definitely wouldn't want to be there without proper shoes, especially if you don't have any water.

When discussing his absence, Mr. Elkington expressed his astonishment at the overwhelming support he received. He noted that it was remarkable how many people, not just his loved ones but also the expatriate and local Spanish community, rallied around him.

However, the mother of Mr. Slater expressed that she was getting more and more distressed.

She expressed that he is simply a very pleasant and lively individual who has many friends that enjoy spending time with him.

"He's stunning, he's lovely. He's my precious little one."

The authorities of Accrington and Rossendale College, where Mr Slater was undergoing his apprenticeship, expressed their worry in relation to the recent incident concerning one of their apprentices, Jay Slater, who went missing while vacationing in Tenerife.

A representative from the UK's Foreign Office informed the BBC that they are providing assistance to the family of a British man who has been reported as being unaccounted for in Spain. The Foreign Office is also in communication with the authorities in the local area.
