Earlier this month, the 63-year-old comedian shared the news that she would be canceling her UK tour titled Why Is She Still Here? after being advised to take a break from work “for the time being.”

In a video posted on social media, Godley announced that she is now receiving palliative care and will be moving to a hospice.

She expressed her gratitude to the NHS and the caregivers who looked after her, as well as to her family, friends, and fans for all their support.

"In the video, she mentioned that she is currently receiving palliative care and is in the final stages of her life while in the hospital."

"The chemotherapy has run its course, and I couldn’t endure any more of it. Unfortunately, the cancer has advanced further. It seems like I’m nearing the end of this journey, and it's incredibly hard to discuss it and share this with others."

She expressed her gratitude to the organizations that have assisted her during her health challenges.

Numerous friends and notable figures commented on Godley’s post to show their support, among them TV chef Nigella Lawson, comedian Dom Joly, and former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Sturgeon, who Godley humorously imitated in a popular video during the Covid pandemic, expressed, “I’m sending you a lot of love, my friend. You truly inspire me.”

TV chef Nigella Lawson expressed her feelings by saying, “Oh Janey, this is truly sad. I appreciate everything you've contributed to the world—and for just being yourself.”

Comedian Dom Joly also commented, "Wishing you all the best, Janey – you are truly amazing."

In the meantime, First Minister John Swinney shared on Twitter: “I’m truly sorry to learn of this news, and I send my best wishes to @JaneyGodley.”

Ex-first minister Humza Yousaf shared: "I’m deeply saddened to hear this news about someone so warm-hearted, generous, and, naturally, very funny."

Mark Hamill, the Star Wars star, shared: “Wishing you lots of love and all the best, Janey.”

LBC Radio presenter James O’Brien expressed: "She’s an amazing person. It’s a true honor to know her. She's as brave as she is humorous, and that speaks volumes."

In 2022, the comedian received good news and announced on X, which used to be Twitter, that a recent scan revealed “no signs of illness.”

She later revealed that a subsequent scan indicated the presence of the disease in her abdomen, but she confirmed that she would keep going with her tour.

Earlier this month, she called off her upcoming tour planned for this fall because of her stage four ovarian cancer. Although she had managed to control the disease with NHS treatment for several years, it has now returned with some additional complications.

In the latest video, she expressed, "It's heartbreaking to realize that I'm nearing the end of my life, but we all reach that point eventually."

"I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone who has stood by our family, particularly to my daughter Ashley and my husband."

The incredible backing I’ve received has been truly remarkable, and I’m uncertain how much longer I have before someone inquires about it. I’m not just here for TikTok.

"I want to express my gratitude for all the love and support you've shown me. Cancer touches the lives of many, and I am among those it has impacted."

She sent warm Christmas wishes to everyone and expressed her desire to be here for the holiday, although she isn't sure if she will be able to.

The comedian expressed her heartfelt compassion and encouragement to everyone who is dealing with a life-threatening illness.

Born into a life of hardship in Glasgow in 1961, Godley eventually became a familiar co-host on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends and also led the BBC Radio 4 series The C Bomb.

The comedian was spotted at the Turnberry golf resort holding her well-known "no entry" sign for Donald Trump back in 2016.

In 2023, Godley received the first-ever Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award during the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
