Jamie Theakston, the co-host of Heart Radio's Breakfast show, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with early-stage laryngeal cancer.

He mentioned that he had an operation not long ago to take out a growth from his vocal cords and that the outlook is looking "very encouraging."

He mentioned that the cancer was detected through a biopsy.

Theakston, 53, released a statement saying, "I have cancer, but it does not control my life."

The outlook is looking really good, and I’m optimistic about returning to you in October.

In the meantime, I’ve been advised to take a break from speaking and to let JK (Jason King) and Amanda (Holden) take over. They're more than capable of handling things.

A huge shoutout to them and everyone in the Global family for their incredible support.

"Appreciate this day, and when we meet again, I've got an amazing story to share with you... Jamie x."

Heart Radio shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, referring to Theakston as "our cherished Jamie."

Amanda Holden, his co-host, informed listeners on Tuesday morning, "Although it's been confirmed as cancer, there are still positive aspects to consider."

JK, whose full name is Jason King and regularly co-hosts the Drivetime show alongside Kelly Brook, shared an update: "The outlook is very encouraging, and Jamie has a fantastic team working to resolve everything. He will be fine and is looking forward to rejoining us shortly."

Holden mentioned that Theakson advised them, "We need to stand strong, and he's made it clear that the show has to continue, and that's exactly our plan."

"We're going to make him proud, along with Sophie [his wife] and the boys, who are tuning in from home. I can already tell that after this announcement, all of you listening will be sending your warmest regards to our king."

"Our dear Jamie is on the road to recovery and will be back with us before we know it."

Celebrities and fans took to Theakston's Instagram to send him their best wishes.

Singer Olly Murs shared a heartfelt message, saying, "Theakoo! Sending lots of love to you, my friend! Wishing you a speedy recovery!" Meanwhile, television chef and restaurateur Jamie Oliver expressed his support with a message: "Sending big love your way, brother. You can handle this! Lots of love xxx."

Emma Bunton, former co-host of the Heart breakfast show alongside Theakston, expressed her feelings by saying, "I adore you completely."

Additional warm wishes were sent by comedians Sarah Millican and Leigh Francis, as well as presenters Mark Wright, Jenni Falconer, and Lisa Snowden, along with Natalie Appleton from All Saints.

Theakston gained popularity as a television host in the 1990s, featuring on BBC programs like The Ozone, the Saturday morning kids' show Live & Kicking, where he co-hosted with Zoe Ball, and Top of the Pops.

He also hosted the quiz show A Question of Pop and The Priory on Channel 4, once again joining forces with Ball.

In the early 2000s, he hosted the reality show The Games on Channel 4. Later, in 2009, he collaborated once more with Ball for the Channel 4 series called Britain's Best Brain.

Theakston started co-presenting Heart Radio's main breakfast program in 2005, teaming up with Harriet Scott. She departed from the show in 2013, and Bunton took over her spot. In 2019, Holden joined Theakston as a co-host.

Laryngeal cancer is a form of cancer that targets the larynx, which is commonly known as the voice box.

The larynx, located at the beginning of the windpipe, is a crucial component of the throat. It helps with both breathing and speaking.

In the UK, over 2,000 new instances of laryngeal cancer are diagnosed each year.

It tends to be more prevalent among individuals over 60 years old, and is more frequent in men.

The primary forms of treatment include radiation therapy, surgical procedures, chemotherapy, and specialized cancer medications.
