Jamie Foxx says he suffered a brain bleed which led to a stroke in 2023
Jamie Foxx shared that he experienced a brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke in 2023.
Foxx had mentioned earlier that he went through a tough time during his treatment for a medical issue in April 2023. However, he shared additional insights in his new comedy special on Netflix that came out on Tuesday.
During his performance in Atlanta, the actor, singer, and comedian shared with the audience that he became unwell while shooting the Netflix spy action movie "Back In Action," alongside Hollywood star Cameron Diaz. He mentioned that he had a severe headache and decided to see a doctor.
He mentioned that the doctor administered a "cortisone shot," which is a type of steroid injection, and afterward, he felt very tired and sluggish.
The 56-year-old mentioned that his sister, Deidra Dixon, sensed that something wasn't right and brought him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
"She was unaware of anything regarding Piedmont Hospital, but she had a feeling that there were some angels inside," he continued.
"Atlanta changed everything for me."
He mentioned that the doctor informed his sister that he was experiencing a brain hemorrhage that resulted in a stroke, and cautioned her, "If I don't perform surgery immediately, we might lose him."
Foxx mentioned that he went in for an operation, and "my sister prayed the entire time while kneeling just outside the operating room."

Foxx stated that the medical team was unable to determine the cause of the brain bleeding, but he has been diagnosed with a stroke.
He mentioned that the cause of the illness remains mostly unknown, stating, "It's still a puzzle" and "We are not entirely sure what happened to me."
The award-winning actor shared that he has no recollection of the first three weeks following his surgery, but he recalled coming to on May 4th.
"When I opened my eyes, I realized I was in a wheelchair and unable to walk," he recalled, mentioning that the doctor informed his family he was likely in for the "most difficult year" of his recovery.
He mentioned that his family shielded him from public attention while he was healing, a process that sometimes made it hard for him to walk.
Foxx mentioned that consulting a psychiatrist was beneficial for his mental health, enabling him to reconnect with his faith in God.
"If I can keep being humorous, I can keep going," he said.
