Jose Mourinho empathises with Erik ten Hag over Jadon Sancho situation - 'Sometimes I fail with players' - Eurosport

Jadon Sancho

The ex-coach of Manchester United, Jose Mourinho, strongly believes in the skill of Jadon Sancho. He believes that the leadership at Old Trafford has not been able to utilize the full potential of the young talent.

In January, Sancho was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund due to a dispute with the manager of United, Erik ten Hag. He had a hard time adjusting to life in Manchester, but his contribution was crucial in Dortmund's journey to the UEFA Champions League final.

Mourinho was one of the experts included in TNT Sports' impressive team for the final at Wembley. During the coverage, he shared his past encounters with coaching gifted players who faced difficulties in displaying their renowned abilities.

Mourinho acknowledged the player's abilities and talent, stating that they have seen what he is capable of. He also admitted to having made mistakes with players in the past during his own career, citing the situation with the player's previous team, Man Utd.

At times, I struggled to connect with players on a deeper level, comprehend their individual characteristics and guide them towards positive development. While I succeeded in this task most times, there were instances where I fell short.

At times, it is necessary to accept our experiences and make an effort to comprehend the character of the athletes. Despite having the necessary skills, they may not possess the desired traits that one seeks in a player, hence leading to errors. However, it is possible that the coach could not bring out their full potential.

Mourinho stated that Manchester United shouldn't be completely accountable for Sancho's difficult acclimation to the Premier League. The ex-manager of Chelsea remarked that there are various elements that affect players, such as agents and family members.

Although, he did advise that the Premier League team ought to reconsider their position by stressing on the characteristics that caught the striker's notice initially.

He mentioned that it usually involves various factors. These include the coach, player, family, agent, and club. Based on his experience as a coach, he has successfully assisted many players in achieving their full potential. This, in turn, led them to become successful in their future endeavors.

Although it has multiple contributing factors, we are still involved in it. As seasoned coaches, we often encounter situations that feel familiar. As we age, we strive to guide players towards the right path. This involves examining the events that occurred at Manchester United and identifying what they found within themselves.

Sancho has managed to get three goals and provided two assists in a total of 20 games after coming back to Dortmund. He has definitely shown signs of being more energetic and enthusiastic for Edin Terzić's team as they aim to win their second Champions League title.
