Draper dispatches Van de Zandschulp to reach US Open last 16 for second successive year

Jack Draper

British tennis player Jack Draper has made it to the fourth round of the US Open for the second year in a row. He defeated Botic Van de Zandschulp with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.

Draper put on an impressive performance against the Dutch player. Just two days ago, the Dutch player caused a surprise by defeating the 2022 champion Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.

By making it to the fourth round, Draper has equalled his best performance in the tournament and also joined Andy Murray and John Lloyd as the third British man in the Open Era to reach the last 16 at the US Open in back-to-back years.

Last year, the top British player made it to the fourth round of the US Open but was defeated by Andrey Rublev with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The player ranked No.25 in the world will face off against Czech player Tomas Machac, who has won all three of their previous matches, in an attempt to make it to his first ever Grand Slam quarter-final.

"I believe Botic did an amazing job in the match against Carlos," Draper mentioned during the interview after the match. "It can be challenging to perform on such a grand stage and face a player like him. It can be exhausting to compete in that situation, so he deserves credit for his performance."

I believe I had a good game today, even though it was a bit messy and inconsistent. I managed to pull through in the end and I appreciate all of the support from you all. It felt great being back on the court again.

"During the previous year, I faced many challenges due to injuries. However, I managed to continue playing and competing against the top players in the world. It was my dedication and hard work that allowed me to perform on the biggest stages. I am thankful for the support from those around me and we are motivated to achieve even more."
