Ivanka Trump makes first appearance of 2024 election campaign as she joins father for victory speech
The eldest daughter of the president-elect makes an appearance on stage at Mar-a-Lago, having maintained a low profile throughout the presidential campaign.
Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump's eldest daughter, made her first appearance of the election campaign by standing alongside her father on stage at Mar-a-Lago as he announced his victory this morning.
Ms. Trump, 42, was heavily involved in her father's earlier campaigns, but she and her husband, Jared Kushner, decided to take a step back as he launched his third run for president.
In contrast to her brothers, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., Ms. Trump did not go to her father's criminal trial in Manhattan earlier this year, where he was found guilty on 34 felony charges.
In November 2022, Ms. Trump announced that she would step away from the political scene. She expressed her continued love and support for her father but stated, “From now on, I will be showing my support away from politics.”
One of Ms. Trump's most notable recent public appearances was during her father's civil fraud trial last November, where she stated that she was not informed about her father's financial matters. Following that, she chose not to participate in any interviews.
Mr. Kushner, who was a senior adviser during the Trump administration, communicated to the press on behalf of the couple that there was “no chance at all” of his wife coming back to the campaign as it nears its conclusion.
He mentioned that Ms. Trump decided to close that chapter of her life when she left Washington, and she has remained quite consistent in that choice.
This followed her important involvement in Trump's initial term and his subsequent attempt to run for president again.
Often viewed as a progressive voice, Ms. Trump regularly participated in rallies and took the stage at national conventions to connect with female voters.
For a long time, she has been closely connected to her father's business empire. Raised in Trump Tower, she joined his company after finishing college and often appeared as a guest on his reality TV show, The Apprentice.
Onlookers of the duo, affectionately referred to as "Javanka," noted that stepping back from Washington has allowed them to prosper financially.
Several of Mr. Kushner's business transactions have come under close examination, particularly a $2 billion investment in his private equity firm made by a Saudi government-controlled investment fund shortly after he exited the White House.
At this point, it's uncertain whether Ms. Trump took the stage just as a family member or if she and Mr. Kushner plan to reengage in politics.
