According to Down Detector, users started to notice issues with Reddit just before 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
On Thursday morning, over 76,000 users submitted issues on Down Detector. Approximately half of these users experienced difficulties with the app, while the other half encountered issues with the website.
Update: Shortly before 11 a.m. EST, Reddit announced on X that they are "looking into an issue with our site." A Reddit representative, Tim Rathschmidt, informed Forbes that a recent update led to some disruptions, but reassured users that the site is starting to stabilize again.
On Wednesday evening, Reddit experienced a similar outage, which the company acknowledged in a post on X shortly after 3:30 p.m. EST. They updated users four hours later, stating they had found a solution and were monitoring the situation. By around 11 p.m., they confirmed the issue had been resolved. Reports of the outage peaked on Down Detector just before 3:30 p.m., with over 47,000 users indicating problems with the servers. To explain what had happened, Reddit shared a meme that transformed a popular meme of a woman shouting at a cat, changing it to depict her yelling at the Reddit mascot. In the meme, the woman exclaims, “Reddit is down!” while the mascot replies, “There was a bug in a recent update we made, but we've implemented a fix and things are getting back to normal.” They also added in another post: “sorry sorry sorry.”
