Soaps have often been hailed and praised for tackling sensitive issues and serious topics. Currently, Paddy Kirk, who is played by Dominic Brunt, is involved in a very serious storyline on ITV1's Emmerdale where Paddy is dealing with his depression and suicidal thoughts.
In the episode that aired on Thursday, March 2, fans were heartbroken as Paddy went around the village saying his goodbyes as he intended to take his own life. In the show, Paddy has been depressed since losing his daughter and finding out his wife Chas has been having an affair with Al Chapman.
The episode showed Paddy leaving a suicide note for his dad Bear. With Paddy saying his final, heart-wrenching goodbyes to all of his loved ones, many fans thought Paddy was going to take his own life. He will be found by Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

Although he is found in a field with a gun in his hand, Marlon manages to persuade Paddy to return to the village. Paddy continues to live with and try to fight his depression.
Dominic Brunt appeared on ITV1 morning show This Morning, to chat with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about the storyline. Talking about the character Dominic said: "He doesn't talk because men do not talk, he isolated himself within his own community...the whole thing blew my head off, it was very very intense."
While on This Morning Dominic chatted about future scenes which are set to air, where Marlon organises a lock in and for the first time in Emmerdale's 50-year history the episode will be all male as the male cast of Emmerdale try to help Paddy.
