According to a report from Israeli media outlet Ynet News, which referenced Iran International, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, is said to be in a coma. There are claims that his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been named as his potential successor.
Mojtaba Khamenei, the 85-year-old leader's second son, was said to have been chosen during a private gathering of the Assembly of Experts on September 26. This meeting, called by Khamenei himself, reportedly experienced significant pressure on the assembly's 60 members to come to a unanimous agreement, with claims of threats made by Khamenei and his associates.

Who Is Mojtaba Khamenei? Learn About His Life
In the last two years, Mojtaba Khamenei is said to have become a key figure within Iran's government. Although he seldom appears in public, he is believed to have played a part in quelling the protests that erupted after the 2009 elections. In 2021, he received the title of ayatollah, which is a necessary credential for someone to take on the role of Supreme Leader.
Mojtaba was born in Mashhad in 1969. He pursued studies in theology and received guidance from notable educators, all while under his father’s supervision, eventually becoming a cleric. He currently teaches theology at the Qom seminary as well.
He has three kids with his partner, Zahra Haddad-Adel.

During the elections in 2005 and 2009, Mojtaba backed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and is said to have played a role in Ahmadinejad's victory in 2009.
In June 2009, following Ahmadinejad's victory, protests erupted across the country. Mujtaba was allegedly at the forefront of those quelling the demonstrations against the government.
However, the relationship with Ahmadinejad deteriorated after he accused Mojtaba Khamenei of misappropriating money from the government’s treasury.
