The Right to Match (RTM) was first implemented in 2018. This rule gives franchises the opportunity to reclaim a player from their roster from the previous season.
The RTM rule permits a franchise to keep a player they let go by matching the best offer made for that player during the auction.

The RTM card gives teams that didn't fully utilize their maximum of six player retentions before the auction the chance to keep a few players from their old teams.
A team has the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card to counter the best offer made for a player who was on its roster in the last season. In this situation, the team that made the initial bid will get a chance to increase their offer after the RTM card has been activated.
If the team with the right to match the bid chooses to do so, they will keep the player. If they decide not to, the original bidder will acquire the player, and the right to match will be available again for the team that missed out.
Except for the Rajasthan Royals and the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, both of whom opted to retain six players, all remaining teams will have access to the Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction.
The limit of having no more than five capped players and two players without caps will also be in effect for the use of the Right to Match (RTM).
