India all out for 46 in first innings vs New Zealand in lowest Test score on home soil

India vs New Zealand

In their opening Test match against New Zealand, India was dismissed for just 46 runs in their first innings, marking their lowest-ever Test score on home ground.

Experienced New Zealand pacer Tim Southee bowled out Indian captain Rohit Sharma for just two runs, and star player Virat Kohli was among five Indian batsmen who were out without scoring. The team fell apart dramatically, dropping from a score of 31-3 to a total of 46 all out.

Rohit, Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan were all out for zero runs, leaving the team with just 10 points on the scoreboard. Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) and Rishabh Pant (20) were the only batters to score more than four runs, and they tried to bring some stability to the innings by adding 21 runs together.

However, by the 31st over, India found themselves in deep trouble at 34 for 7 after KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin all got out without scoring, following Jaiswal's contribution of just 13 runs.

Pant achieved a high score of 20, but it was Matt Henry (5-15), who reached his milestone of 100 Test wickets, along with William O'Rourke (4-22), who efficiently dealt with the lower order. Their impressive performance allowed the Black Caps to seize total control of the match.

This marks the lowest Test innings score for India at home and the third-lowest overall. Their worst performance was against Australia in Adelaide in 2020, where they were all out for just 36 runs.

Before now, India's lowest score on home soil was 75 runs, which they recorded against the West Indies in Delhi back in 1987.

At the end of the second day, New Zealand finished with a score of 180 for 3, holding a strong lead of 134 runs. This puts them in a favorable position to secure their first Test win against India on foreign ground since 1988. Rachin Ravindra remained not out at 22 runs, and Daryl Mitchell is also still at the crease with 14 runs.

Devon Conway was the highest run-scorer, making a rapid 91 runs off 105 deliveries, including three sixes and 11 fours. Other notable dismissals for New Zealand included Will Young, who scored 33, and captain Tom Latham, who contributed 15 runs.

Sharma "hurt" After "misjudging" The Pitch

India's captain, Sharma, surprised many by choosing to bat first. He commented, "You assess the situation and make a decision. Sometimes you get it right, and sometimes you don't, and this time I didn't."

"I'm feeling a bit of pain from making that decision. However, I believe that as a team, these are the obstacles we need to face."

"There wasn’t a lot of grass on the field, which led us to include Kuldeep Yadav in the lineup. He has experience bowling on flatter surfaces and has been successful in taking wickets, so we anticipated the pitch would be fairly flat. However, it turned out to be different from our expectations, indicating we misread the conditions."

Catch day four of the second Test between Pakistan and England in Multan, live on Sky Sports Cricket and Main Event starting at 5:50 AM on Wednesday, with the match commencing at 6 AM. You can also watch it through NOW.
