India vs England, live: score and latest updates from second Test, day one

India vs England

Bharat Falls To Rehan After Scoring 17

In the many times that I've watched Test cricket, I don't recall this happening often. However, we have finally reached the fabled "minimum of 90 overs to be bowled", which means we will surpass this amount. I believe there's time for two or three more overs. This is a good opportunity for England to make some progress. It's also a chance for Rehan or Bashir to take another wicket.

And so it happens! Bharat is dismissed in a gentle manner. It's quite similar to Axar's dismissal just a few moments before. He hits the ball towards point and Bashir takes the catch from Rehan's bowling, which is a repayment for what Bharat did earlier.

India Scores Big With 329/5: Jaiswal Leads With 177

It's Bharat's turn to execute a slog sweep, and this time he does it against Bashir resulting in six runs! With this, India has changed their gameplay towards the end of the match, making it challenging for England to catch up.

India Scores 323/5 With Jaiswal’s 177 And Bharat’s 11

Rehan and Axar make a great move as Rehan hits a short ball towards the deep midwicket boundary, using a short-arm punch technique, and scores four. Rehan rarely gives such opportunities to the opponent team, but with a leggy around, there is always a possibility. During the 14th over, India manages to earn some good runs, including one, four, three, zero, and then two. Just as everyone thought that they have seen it all, Jaiswal enters the field and hits a powerful shot, sending the ball back over Rehan's head for a six! Clearly, Jaiswal is not interested in trying to defend his wickets.

India Scores 307/5 With Jaiswal's 168 And Bharat's 4

Jaiswal realizes that he must achieve a high number of runs. He has displayed exquisite batting skills today. He has utilized the opportunities to hit shots, but has also managed his innings exceptionally well. Although some other batsmen made a decent start, none have surpassed the 50 run mark. It's evident from Gill's 34 that this inning is crucial for India's overall score. England appears content with their performance in this session.

Bharat scores his first run with a sweep shot that was not very convincing. He hit the ball towards the four runs area and it was far from the off-side, which was a big gamble. However, he managed to get away with it, but not completely.

India Scores 302/5 With Jaiswal's 166 And Bharat At 0

Shoaib Bashir performed excellently on the first day of Test cricket by taking two wickets. It must be mentioned that he has bowled remarkably well today, despite all the circumstances. After Bashir took the wicket, Rehan bowled an over that resulted in just one run. Great effort by both of them!

"Axar Falls For 27: Caught By Rehan Off Bashir's Delivery"

This is the wicket that England was hoping for, although maybe not the batsman. Bashir didn't quite make it and Axar adjusted his body weight, hitting the ball in an upward direction and sending it directly to Rehan Ahmed at backward point who had no trouble catching it. Axar doesn't seem pleased with himself for his mistake. It's not a great time to get out, especially not hitting the ball directly towards a fielder.

"That's a terrible way for Axar Patel to lose his spot at position No. 8, but it's a well-deserved victory for Shoaib Bashir, who worked hard all day. His debut has been remarkable."

India's Score Reaches 300/4 With Jaiswal's 165 And Axar's 27

Rehan completes his first over by delivering a googly that goes back to the left-handed Jaiswal. This day shows that England may have a slight disadvantage without the option to use Ben Stokes' bowling skills.

India's Score Reaches 300/4 With Jaiswal Scoring 165 And Axar Adding 27 Runs

There isn't really anything exciting happening on the pitch. Occasionally there's a ball that bounces low. It took India 73 balls to make a partnership of 50 runs - which is the same speed they've been scoring all day. It's not super fast, but it's decently quick. When Axar got a single, the score for India went up to 300.

India Scores 297/4 With Jaiswal's 164 And Axar's 25

There are only seven overs remaining until the day ends. They might be completed, but will England be able to take one more wicket before the end?

India Dominates: Jaiswal Scores 162, Total 292/4

Unexpectedly, Jaiswal attempts a massive swing! The ball was thrown just outside the off stump, spun a little, and he failed to hit it due to his lack of proper footing. Nonetheless, Foakes quickly removed the bails. Although they reviewed the play, Jaiswal's back foot was grounded, so it was not deemed a second wicket for Bashir.

India Dominates With 289/4 At Over 81

The game is still ongoing and Rehan Ahmed has stepped up to bowl his 10th over, but there hasn't been any new ball introduced. The Indian batsmen have taken a break to grab some drinks, but this wasn't long after the official drinks break was done. I suspect Ben Foakes must have left the field, which is why water was brought over.

Until now, India has been successful in forming alliances, but none of them have truly come to fruition. Jaiswal has been the mainstay for the entire match with an outstanding performance thus far.

India Scores 287/4 With Jaiswal's 160 And Axar's 19

Bashir manages to trick Jaiswal into giving him an advantage, causing his cut shot to soar past Joe Root at first slip at an accelerated pace. Although it was difficult to catch, Bashir felt content with this result and it provided him with some motivation. He did well on his first day on the field, as he was able to take Rohit's wicket, show signs of potential, and appear promising.

In my opinion, it's unrealistic to anticipate a newcomer with limited top-level involvement to be as authoritative as Monty Panesar was during his first game. However, it's still possible for them to develop their leadership skills over time. Bashir's 22nd over led to five runs being scored, which was a considerable effort, especially since he bowled four more overs than anyone else.

India Scores Big: Jaiswal's 154 Leads To 282/4

Today, Root has not posed a significant threat and has continuously brought the team's performance down. Axar takes advantage of this by hitting a strong shot towards deep midwicket, earning four points. It should be noted that a new ball will be made available in just one over.

Jaiswal: A Promising Addition To India's Left-Handers' List?

There have been few cricket players in India who bat with their left hand. Among them, the top three players with the most runs in Test matches are Gautam Gambhir, Sourav Ganguly, and Ravi Jadeja. However, in my opinion, I believe that Yashasvi Jaiswal has the potential to surpass them all and become a more well-rounded and skilled player.

"Today's Economic Rates Update"

Each person has bowled nine overs minimum.

The measurements for the individuals are as follows: Anderson is 1.76, Root is 5.7, Hartley is 4.11, Bashir is 3.57, and Rehan is 3.55.

Put simply, it means that there is a small amount of leakage present.

India Scores 277/4 With Jaiswal's 154 And Axar's 15

Newcomer Shoaib Bashir is back, but the outcome is not any different, unfortunately. Jaiswal is taking advantage of even the slightest mistake and continues to increase his score. Bashir manages to turn one past Jaiswal's outer edge, but surprises him with a bit of erratic bounce. With only about an hour left in the day, the final drinks break is taken. There are 12 more overs to be bowled, and England should be able to complete them.

India's Jaiswal Scores 151 Runs In 272/4 Against Opponent

Joe Root comes back to bowl, and James Anderson may take a break - maybe even for the rest of the day. Jaiswal hits a cover drive off Root's second ball and gets four runs. Root then pitches short, and Axar pulls through to deep midwicket twice in a row. This is a difficult situation for Stokes. Only Anderson has truly limited India. Everyone else has been a bit careless, to some extent. The run-rate for the session is slowly increasing towards 3.5.

India Scores 259/4 With Jaiswal's 146 And Axar's 5 Wickets

Rehan made a rare mistake by dropping short and delivering a slightly wide ball, which gave Axar the chance to rock back and pull it for a four. The current run rate for this session is 2.76. James Anderson has assisted in giving England more control of the game after the tea break and Stokes should be pleased with their ability to prevent India from gaining an advantage. Rehan also played a critical role in preventing India from gaining an edge by taking a wicket.

India Dominates With 255/4: Jaiswal Scores 146 And Axar Takes 1 Wicket

I reckon that England won't feel too disheartened about the current score. India probably has a slight lead, but England has been able to take a few wickets which has helped them keep a close eye on India's progress. Whether India manages to post a huge score or a decent one will definitely depend on how they perform in the last hour of day one.

India Scores 253/4 With Jaiswal's 144 And Axar's 1

Axar has scored his first run after a period of waiting. Anderson will continue to bowl.

India's Score Soars To 250/4 With Jaiswal's 142

Once more, there was only one run off Anderson's most recent over. A member of the England squad asked if Jim was still going strong. It made me ponder, why not? Perhaps he could get one or two more wickets? Both Rehan and Jim have been the strongest and most intimidating bowlers for the England team.

India Dominates With 249/4 As Jaiswal Scores 141*

England has a chance now that they have a new player, Axar Patel, batting at number six. While his Test average is not exceptional, it is still decent for his position. He has not achieved any centuries and usually bats a bit lower in the order. The team would prefer to have Jaiswal, but they will accept whatever they receive. Rehan delivers a ball that remains low, causing Axar to cut it while moving backwards, but he manages to defend it. Rehan has a wicket maiden, which raises questions about why he was not introduced earlier, before the 60th over.

Patidar Falls For 32, Dismissed By Ahmed

This is an odd moment in the game! Ahmed delivers a ball that bounces higher than expected on Patidar’s bat and ends up rolling back onto the stumps. Rehan has been performing well and finally gets his deserved reward with this delivery. It was a good one, but unfortunately for Patidar, he couldn't redirect the ball fast enough, resulting in the bails coming off before he realized it. This must have been a frustrating sight for Patidar, who thought he had successfully navigated the tricky delivery.

India Scores 249/3 With Jaiswal Making 141 And Patidar 32

Once more, Jaiswal is unable to hit an Anderson ball that moves sideways and he certainly made an attempt to strike it with his bat. Anderson appears somewhat annoyed by this. He has now completed another over without conceding any runs. The pace of the game has understandably decreased ever since Anderson started playing.

India's Strong Start With 249/3: Jaiswal Scores 141 And Patidar 32

I wouldn't exactly say that Rehan is causing Jaiswal trouble, but he is making him ponder. The partnership has reached 70 runs with five from the over, all singles. Rehan hasn't hit many boundaries so far, but the finger-spinners are starting to get hit around a bit.

India Scores 245/3 With Jaiswal's 139 And Patidar's 30

Patidar enters his thirties as the speed of the game decreases slightly. Anderson is being incredibly cautious with his moves, as we've grown accustomed to seeing.

India's Score: Jaiswal Shines With 139 In 244/3

There weren't many people who were able to get close to Rehan except for one slight slip up. Jaiswal, who has made similar mistakes before, takes a wild swing but doesn't quite connect and the ball rolls along the ground without any points scored. Rehan throws a spin and it lands in a small section of rough terrain, but Jaiswal steps up and sends the ball soaring high above for a six over wide mid-off! It was an excellent shot in a phenomenal innings. In addition, Jaiswal makes another successful hit, sending a back-foot cut that goes past the man at backward point and races to the boundary for a four! It may seem unfair for Jaiswal to gain 10 runs off a well-played over, but that's the nature of Test cricket. Good plays aren't always made from bad balls.

India Scores 234/3 With Jaiswal's 129 And Patidar's 29

Anderson had an uncommon incident where he bowled a no ball, but only slightly overstepping the line. However, he managed to get the final ball to move back in, resulting in a single and a run from the no ball.

India Scores 232/3 With Jaiswal's 128 And Patidar's 29

Rehan did a great job. He hasn't thrown too many bad balls, which young leg-spinners tend to do. However, England's finger-spinners have been a bit wasteful today.

Regardless, the partnership between the two players has now reached 53 runs out of 92 due to the five runs scored in this over.

India Dominates With 227/3: Jaiswal Scores 126, Patidar 26

James Anderson has returned to the pitch for his twelfth over. Even if England manages to take a lot of wickets in this session, they must prevent the opposing team from scoring as many runs as they did during the afternoon session. Anderson appears to be crucial to achieving this goal. He begins with a strong start, securing a maiden.

India Dominates With 227/3, Jaiswal Scores 126

During the first over after taking a break for tea, Rehan manages to make a sharp spin that passes Patidar, who is batting on the right side. It was a good move by Rehan. The following hits resulted in two singles for Patidar.

Let's Begin The Last Session

During this session, the English team will aim to take at least two wickets. If the Indian team performs similarly to their performance during the middle session, they could finish the day with a score of approximately 350/4, which is a strong foundation for reaching a score of 550. However, if England manages to take three or four wickets and bowl a tighter game, India's score could be around 325/6 or 325/7, making it less intimidating due to the longer tail-end of their team.

Tea Break Update: Will Macpherson's Insights

Yashasvi Jaiswal's splendid century helped India dominate the opening day of the second Test match.

Jaiswal enjoyed a cup of tea while standing at 125 not out. He achieved his first Test century on his homeland by hitting the ball straight down the ground for a six against Tom Hartley. Jaiswal removed his helmet and started an elaborate and emotional celebration as the ball flew into the stands.

During the session, Hartley was able to take England's only wicket. He was able to get the skittish Shreyas Iyer out, as Iyer had an under edge. Ben Foakes was able to take a great catch. Moreover, there were earlier wickets taken during the morning session by Shoaib Bashir and Jimmy Anderson.

In the ongoing game, India is putting together a great score, but England might be motivated by the fact that the pitch is currently ideal for batting. Up until now, England's inexperienced bowlers haven't had much success. However, Bashir's impressive performance in the game may have caught many off guard. He is one of England's most unexpected team members in recent times.

India Dominates: Jaiswal Hits 125, Patidar Scores 25

India has formed another promising partnership with a score of 44 off 68 before the start of this over. Rehan bowled a single, and then offie Bashir came back on. Bashir had a shout for LBW on Patidar, pitching it in the in-between length as he prods forward. Although he possibly hit it, there is doubt it was hitting the stumps, and it wasn't enough to overturn the umpire's call. Bashir changed the angle for Patidar, coming around the wicket, which I quite like. When wickets are like this, you have to try different things. The over resulted in two runs, and now it's time for tea.

They scored an impressive 122 runs during the session while also claiming one wicket. Jaiswal's performance has been noteworthy, leaving England with a considerable gap to bridge.

India Scores 222/3 With Jaiswal's 125 And Patidar's 22

The Indian team is playing well so far. It's only the first day, but they've established a strong foundation with Jaiswal's score of 125.

India Surpasses 60 With 218/3

In the end, Rehan Ahmed has made an appearance. The speed at which England has been bowling today is quite impressive, especially since it's mostly the spin bowlers doing the work. The acceptable pace should be roughly 15 overs per game or slightly more. Patidar throws a high ball, but unfortunately, it's too far for the small Rehan Ahmed to catch. Nevertheless, it was a good first over, with only three points given up.

"Rehan Ahmed is making his first appearance today at the 60th over, right before a short break for tea. Everyone is hoping that he can work some magic for England. He is truly an exceptional choice for the team. Although it's possible that a second seamer would have been more utilized today, things could change during the team's second innings."

"India Reaches 215/3 With Jaiswal's 119 And Patidar's 21 In 58-59 Overs"

Patidar strikes Bashir's full delivery through the covers for a confident four runs, well done young man (despite being 30 years old)... I'm still puzzled as to why Rehan Ahmed isn't playing, there must be a valid explanation but I can't comprehend it. The current bowlers of the opposition team are not maintaining a strong line of attack to limit India's play.

Patidar skillfully hit Root's delivery for four runs with a reverse sweep, keeping the ball low and under control until it reached the boundary. He then strategically moved inside the ball and powerful hit it wide of mid off for another impressive four. Patidar's excellent wrist work on display reminded us of the legendary Laxman, who was also known for his deft use of the wrists. Could Patidar be the next Laxman in the making?

India Racks Up 202/3 With Jaiswal's 119!

Bashir just finished his latest run and then Root allowed five singles during his 11th over, which helped India surpass the 200 score. There has been a slight slowdown in the pace of the game since the wicket, but achieving 23 runs off 38 balls is still a respectable rate for the beginning of a partnership.

India Dominates With 197/3, Jaiswal Scores 117

It's been tough for England to keep things under control on the field, except for James Anderson's performance. Jaiswal is doing great, but apart from that, England hasn't seen much success. India is aiming to reach 500, and if they can do it quickly, it will give them a major advantage. However, India's batting lineup isn't one of their strongest aspects. They'd rather have Ashwin batting eighth instead of seventh. So, Ben Stokes shouldn't feel too disheartened and will likely keep his spirits up.

India Scores Big: Jaiswal Makes 117

Only two runs scored in the 54th over by Rehan Ahmed. Have you heard of him? He's not Ben Stokes, but he could potentially be just as good.

India Scores 193/3 In Over 53 With Jaiswal Hitting 116 And Patidar Only 2

Jaiswal scored all seven runs from Hartley's latest over. The total score is now 73 with only one wicket down after 17 overs. The spin bowlers from England don't seem to have much control, but it's understandable considering their lack of experience.

Scyld Berry On Top-notch Keepers

The amazing grab made by Ben Foakes sets apart a proficient Test wicketkeeper from an exceptional one. The key is to maintain a low position.

India Score 186/3 With Jaiswal Scoring A Century

Stokes is currently delivering a relatively lengthy bowl towards Bashir. However, Bashir seems to be throwing too many uncontrolled balls, just like all of England's spinners today. His most recent delivery resulted in six points, causing his overall score to land at 1-56 after 15 overs. Only Anderson has managed to keep a steady economy rate below 3.5 as the other bowlers struggle to maintain control.

India Dominates With 180/3

Patidar's quick achievement of marking his first run comes as a welcome relief to any new Test batsman.

Shreyas Falls To Hartley, Caught By Foakes For 27

This is great news for England! The partnership of 90 has come to an end. Hartley enters the game and Shreyas backs away to make a cut, but the ball stays low and he accidentally directs it behind to Foakes who takes a fantastic catch at a low angle. Shreyas hasn't been very involved in the game, playing a secondary role to Jaiswal, so it's possible that he became a bit annoyed. Now it's time for the new player, Patidar, to make his debut.

India Leads With 175/2 In The Over 50 Game, With Jaiswal Scoring 104 And Iyer Scoring 23

Is it time for Rehan? No, not yet...

India Scores 173/2 With Jaiswal's Century

Jaiswal scored a hundred by hitting a six! It was a beautiful (yet violent) shot over long on, and his overall innings was just as impressive. However, he must continue to play well and score more big runs. The pitch is not offering much excitement, and England is struggling to keep up.

The ability of England's spinners will be put to the test in a different way. It won't be the same as when the ball turned in Hyderabad, instead it will be on a level pitch which demands both careful perseverance and cleverness. Since they lack the needed experience, Hartley and Bashir could end up pushing too much in their attempts to make a significant difference.

Reviewing The Initial Post-lunch Hour

In the first hour after lunch, India is doing well. Jaiswal is in control of the game and batting at a good pace. Iyer seems a bit uneasy but is still making progress. England might have made a mistake by not choosing their second seamer. Hartley and Bashir have made a few mistakes and Jaiswal hasn't missed any opportunities. Jimmy Anderson has been the best bowler so far. England had a small chance to get Jaiswal out when Hartley was bowling but Root missed it. The pitch is flat and the weather is hot, which makes it difficult for the players compared to Hyderabad.

India Dominating With 164/2

Jaiswal's score reaches 94 when he hits a single off Bashir. Is Rehan Ahmed preparing to take over the game? Absolutely...

India Leads With 163/2 At Over 47

We will need some beverages. India is working towards achieving a respectable final score.

In Hyderabad, England felt the absence of James Anderson's skillful handling. Anderson's statistics of 1-24 from 11 overs, thus far, were typical of his playing style. Additionally, his numbers were far more efficient than those of any other English bowlers. However, there may come a time when Rehan Ahmed takes to the field. India may try to focus on targeting him, so it's important to consider when he should be used.

India's Score: 160/2

Wow, looks like India is dominating at the moment. Bashir made a mistake and Jaiswal made a stunning drive to score four runs! Jaiswal's score is now in the 90s and he's quickly moving towards his next goal of 100. It seems like he's eager to continue playing aggressively. Unfortunately, Shreyas Iyer hasn't had many opportunities to score in the last quarter-hour or so.

India 154/2: Jaiswal 85, Iyer 21

Wow, did Jaiswal just get out to a delivery bowled by Root? Indeed, he did. Jaiswal attempted to play a shot towards Hartley but ended up hitting the ball with the side of his bat towards the left of Root, who was positioned in the slip. Although Root moved in the opposite direction, he managed to barely touch the ball with his fingertips. However, the ball still managed to cross the boundary line and score Jaiswal four runs.

Hartley made a mistake by throwing too many balls. Jaiswal hit the balls and got four points for each on-drive and cover-drive. Jaiswal played a good game and kept the ball in play with a single.

India In Control: 142/2

Shoaib Bashir is making a comeback to the match for his 11th over. It's hard to determine which spinner has been the top performer until now. Anderson might have performed better than anyone else in the English team. However, Bashir has been remarkably consistent in delivering his balls.

India Cruises To 139/2 With Jaiswal's 70 And Iyer's 21

Hartley has released two new singles, which have brought up the 50 for the partnership. It took them 85 balls, so on average, they scored a bit more than 3.5 runs every over.

India's Score: 137/2 In Over 42

At the conclusion of Root's over, an uncontrolled ball also negatively impacts his statistics. Jaiswal powerfully hits the ball over the extra cover boundary for six runs.

India Score 130/2 With Jaiswal At 63 And Iyer At 19

Hartley messed up a bit by delivering a short ball. Jaiswal immediately reacted by shifting his weight back and hitting it effortlessly towards midwicket, resulting in a boundary. If Jaiswal keeps repeating that kind of shot today, he will be rewarded for it. It's high time to bring Rehan into the game, isn't it?

India At 125/2 With Jaiswal Scoring 59 And Iyer 18

Root requested for a borderline decision, while Foakes wasn't as enthusiastic. Is Shreyas the one who made contact with the ball? It's uncertain. Stokes opted not to challenge the decision. Even though the batsman aimed to sweep the ball, it was far beyond the leg side. Stokes and Foakes were uncertain about whether it was a hit or not. Root wasn't 100% convinced either, so they decided not to waste their review call. Root switched to bowling from around the wicket, utilizing his unique round-arm action. However, the ball landed on the leg side or went beyond the right-handed batsman. A solitary run was obtained off Root's ninth over.

India Scores 124/2 With Jaiswal On 59 And Iyer On 17 At Over 39

Hartley is imitating Ashwin's tactic by attempting to dismiss the batter who is backing up, Shreyas Iyer. He has tried it twice now. The partnership between the two is progressing decently at a rate of 35 runs off 61 balls. The previous partnership reached 49 before Gill exited.

India Scores 122/2 With Jaiswal Leading At 58

You can't spell "Rotate bowlers" without including "Root," and it seems like Stokes is doing a great job once again. It's unclear if the spinners would like longer time to bowl or not, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. Rehan Ahmed hasn't been needed yet today, but with the surface being low-scoring, giving the wrist-spinner a chance now might be a good idea. Why not give him a few overs if you're already changing bowlers every couple of overs? Of course, I'm not the captain of England. Unfortunately, India has managed to surpass 120 runs after some hits off of Root's latest bowl.

India Off To A Good Start With 113/2 And Jaiswal Scoring 55

Anderson manages to skillfully avoid Jaiswal's bat with his delivery, angling across once more. While it's unclear if every ball played was intentional, that particular one was definitely played well, missing the outside edge by only a small distance. Shreyas then steps back and attempts an uppercut on a short ball, but unfortunately only hits the bottom edge and it almost rolls into the stumps, only a few inches away. He tries to replicate the shot again.

Anderson seems to be going back to his tried and true method with his Barnet Fair event. Here are some clues that suggest this.

India's Score: 112/2 With Jaiswal On 54 And Iyer On 10

"Wow, that was a good shot," said Foakes to Hartley. But the next ball didn't go as planned because Hartley lost his grip. There was a bit of confusion between Foakes and Hartley because Jaiswal was going back to the base. The throw towards the stumps was terrible, which caused the ball to move towards the back. The ball was then not handled properly by the players near it. However, India decided not to take a run. Hartley bowled his second over with zero points for the other team.

India Scores 112/2 With Jaiswal On 54 And Iyer On 10, Over 35

Anderson's latest performance includes three consecutive missed attempts and a pause. He has made history as the most experienced seamer in Test matches. The pitch seems fair with no intimidating challenges, giving India the opportunity to aim for a significant score.

India Scores At 109/2 With Jaiswal Leading With 53 And Iyer At 8

Stokes is doing his usual thing and now it's Joe Root's turn to face Tom Hartley's spin bowling. Hartley has strategically placed a fielder at silly mid-off along with a slip and a leg slip for the left-handed Jaiswal, who is currently on 52 runs from 103 balls. Hartley changes his approach by bowling from over the wicket, in order to spin the ball into the left-hander from a tight line. He then switches to round the wicket for the right-handed Shreyas. Pope, on the other hand, takes up a position at silly point.

India 106/2 With Jaiswal At 52 And Iyer On 6

Anderson is performing as expected. He is the only seam bowler representing England in this match, and it is anticipated that he will deliver more overs than Mark Wood's previous record of 25 overs in Hyderabad. In his latest over, Anderson only allowed one run to be scored.

Being the only seamer on England's team can be challenging since Ben Stokes prefers the leg-trap field and Shreyas Iyer struggles with the short ball. Consequently, James Anderson, who is 41 years old, has the responsibility of delivering those types of balls. It's truly noteworthy.

India Off To Solid Start With 105/2 At Over 32

Hey there! Joe Root is coming back to bowl for the first over after the break. He has bowled four consecutive dot balls before Jaiswal hits one to the off-side for a single run. Then, Root delivers a slightly shorter ball which allows Shreyas to push it out on the on-side for another single, keeping the strike.

India Has Shot At Big Score: Lunch Update

England had a good start to the morning due to a mix of experienced and young players, even though they lost the toss on a favorable batting pitch. Their bowling was impressive as they maintained good lines and lengths, resulting in Shoaib Bashir claiming his first wicket in Test cricket and James Anderson achieving his 691st wicket. These were well-deserved rewards for a disciplined bowling display.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's skillful performance remained impressive with an undefeated half-century. He appeared to be the most forward-thinking among the Indian batsmen. Unfortunately, Anderson managed to end the struggling Shubman Gill's innings right before lunch, causing an even session.

When Bashir managed to catch Rohit Sharma at leg slip, it marked his first wicket in a Test match. This was a significant and emotional moment for the young 20-year-old bowler. He had already demonstrated solid nerves in the game, earning him more deserving success. Stokes acknowledged that he had made some errors in his tactics in the previous Test match by being too aggressive with his placement when Tom Hartley first came on to bowl. However, he made some adjustments by providing Bashir with better protection by implementing an in-out field.

Bashir utilized the crease to change his angle of assault and managed to get some bounce and spin on a batting pitch that was quite level. He hardly threw any poor balls as well.

Anderson was selected to maintain control and deliver throws that don't score and he successfully accomplished this by achieving 1-19 from eight overs. He skillfully maneuvered Gill by tempting him to lean forward and forcefully tap a ball that was outside the off stump area.

England is facing a challenging task, as the pitch is cracked and will have turning capabilities later on in the game. India has the opportunity to use this to their advantage, building up confidence and posting a sizable score. Stokes will need to be astute with his tactics in generating opportunities for his bowlers today. Although Bashir is getting comfortable in the match and Anderson has returned, India is also performing well. Overall, an interesting game awaits.

"Vizag Lunch Report: Hoult And Macpherson"

Scyld Berry Talks Shoaib Bashir

Shoaib Bashir had a great start to the game, except for his first ball which was stopped by a fielder. However, unlike Tom Hartley's first ball in Tests, he quickly made up for it. The only mistake he made was when he bowled one too many overs, which resulted in his first full toss. It's important to note that the pitch is very favorable for the batsmen in India, so his 10-0-39-1 is a great start to the game.

India At 103/2 With Jaiswal On 51 And Iyer On 4

The beginning of the game has been quite balanced. Anderson throws a bouncer for the first time, but Shreyas Iyer manages to dodge it easily. Shreyas struggles to score but eventually gets a good hit towards the long-on boundary with a well-timed straight drive. This shot brings India's score to 100 and signals that it's time for lunch.

India Off To Solid Start With Jaiswal's Half-century At 99/2

The blog section briefly describes a cricket match where there was a bit of confusion during a run-out, but Iyer was able to make it back to his ground before being called out. Following that, Bashir sent in a poor full toss which was hit for a six by Jaiswal. Jaiswal then hit the next ball out of the park for another six. The following ball was a bit too full and went through the point for a boundary, making it 50 for Jaiswal. Rehan Ahmed tried to field the ball but missed, which didn't look good. Bashir finished the over strong, leaving the score at 30 before lunch with 10 points earned in the over.

India 89/2: Jaiswal At 41, Iyer At 0

The next batsman to take the field is Shreyas Iyer, who will be batting at No. 4. Will England be able to take another wicket before lunch? James Anderson has now taken 691 wickets. Is it possible for him to reach a total of 700 during this series?

According to the words of Will Macpherson, James Anderson had a clumsy first over, but he did a superb job of bowling for the rest of the day. What's more, he has managed to take a wicket in every year from 2003 to 2024, which is an amazing achievement in terms of longevity.

Gill Caught By Foakes Off Anderson For 34

This time, Anderson manages to get a real edge off Gill's bat. The ball goes towards the third man boundary for four runs, passing just outside the first slip. You can clearly see that this delivery was different from the first one of this over and the last ball of the previous over.

Anderson might have felt angry, but he transforms it into happiness when his searching delivery edges Gill's bat with less force and Foakes instantly dives towards his right side for a successful catch! Gill was beginning to pose a threat, and the pair's cooperation has ended at 49...

As we get closer to lunch, the pointer shifts back towards England.

India Off To A Good Start With 85/1 At 28 Overs

Gill faces off against Bashir. He doesn't quite nail the slog sweep, but manages to score four runs as there are no fielders in that area. It was a high shot. Gill's next shot was perfect - the ball was a bit too full, but Gill moved to the pitch of the ball and hit it elegantly through the covers, scoring four more runs! Bashir seems to be feeling the pressure for the first time, so it will be interesting to see how he responds. We might also get to see how Stokes reacts to this situation.

India At 75/1 With Jaiswal Scoring 40 And Gill 21

Gill managed to hit the ball towards the third man boundary, using an open face of the bat resulting in four runs. However, it was not a true outside edge. Despite this, it's uncertain if Anderson will feel any better about it.

India Reaches 70/1 With Jaiswal Scoring 39 And Gill 17

India advances to 70/1 after scoring two singles. The Barmy Army trumpeter cheers for The Great Escape and there might be a change in the bowling with the comeback of pace. There isn't much happening with the pitch, and Anderson might be struggling the most.

India's Score 68/1 With Jaiswal And Gill Batting

Is India approaching this first morning as a team that's already behind with a score of 1-0 and can't afford to begin badly? It could be possible, but England has been bowling decently this morning with some good leadership from Stokes. However, the pitch seems favorable, which means that the batsmen have a chance to achieve a high score if they establish their position.

India Off To Solid Start With 65/1

Bashir isn't hesitant to mix things up a bit. It's undoubtedly beneficial to begin with a wicket early on, correct? As we approach the 30-minute mark before lunch, four singles were gained from Bashir's seventh over. I suspect that, up to this point, England will be more content than India. India hasn't achieved a big lead over England by any stretch of the imagination.

India Off To A Strong Start With Jaiswal's 35!

Hartley's most recent performance had a couple of mistakes, resulting in him giving away 21 runs in six overs. While his economy rate of 3.5 runs per over wasn't the best, if we exclude the one over that cost him 12 runs, his rate drops to a more impressive 1.8 runs per over. For the most part, he performed quite tightly and wasn't too badly beaten by the opposing team.

"Update On India's Injuries By Nick Hoult"

According to news in the Indian media, it is expected that Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami will not participate in the entire series. Shami has traveled to England to visit an expert surgeon who will administer injections to his left ankle. Although he had already been excluded from the first two Tests, it seems that his injury is more severe than initially anticipated.

Jadeja suffered an injury to his hamstring while getting run out in Hyderabad. It typically takes around four weeks for this type of injury to heal, so it's uncertain if he will be fit enough to play in the final Test in Dharamsala on March 7. It all depends on how quickly he recovers. As for Virat Kohli, it's still unclear if he will be available for the upcoming matches as he missed the first two due to personal reasons.

India Leads With 59/1; Jaiswal Scores 35 And Gill Gets 10

Foakes hollers "get it, get it!" when Jaiswal makes an error and misses his sweep, but Crawley is too far away to make the catch. Bashir changes his approach by bowling from around the wicket to Gill, who is a right-handed batsman. This gives Gill the opportunity to hit or miss the ball on either side, depending on whether it slides or spins.

Bashir is performing brilliantly in his sixth over, managing to get three singles and only giving away 16 runs. He seems to be enjoying his new role as a Test cricketer. Even though he may have faced visa problems in the past, it's unlikely that he's thinking about them at the moment.

India Makes Strong Start: 56/1

Hartley delivered a neater and more affordable bowl, resulting in only one point being scored.

India Reaches 55/1 With Jaiswal's 34 And Gill's 7

Bashir is still in the game, but he only scored two runs from that play. I am impressed with his performance up to this point.

Shoaib Bashir was very near to the stumps when he made his first wicket. He came towards the crease at an angle which made it difficult for right-handed players to avoid playing every ball. If the ball turned, he had a leg slip as a backup option.

India Off To A Good Start: 53/1

After taking the wicket, Jaiswal started to attack the opposition by moving towards Hartley to hit a powerful shot. The next delivery resulted in three runs before Gill capitalized on a poor full toss by hitting it for a boundary on the last ball. The over resulted in a total of 12 runs, with the last three balls yielding 11 runs and two boundaries. The final delivery was a poor full toss that was hit with full force as it deserved.

India's Score 41/1 With Jaiswal On 26 And Gill On 1, For Over 18

Gill hasn't been very successful, and neither have England or Bashir in their early experiences playing Test and professional cricket.

What an incredible moment! Shoaib Bashir's bowling has been exceptional, and he just dismissed Rohit Sharma! It's phenomenal and calls for a massive jubilation.

Rohit Caught By Pope Off Bashir For 14

Bashir has taken his first Test wicket! The ball was of decent quality, it was outside off and turning towards the right-handed player. However, the India captain tried to hit the ball around the corner but it landed straight into the hands of Ollie Pope, who was standing at leg slip. The captain was not pleased with himself, as he didn't hit the ball hard enough. Bashir was thrilled with his success, and he had every right to be!

India Score 40/0 With Jaiswal And Rohit Contributing 26 And 14 Respectively

A big call for England in the beginning of the game after taking a break for drinks. Hartley made contact with Jaiswal's leg, but the team decided not to challenge the decision made by the umpire, probably due to the height of the hit. Hartley delivered a maiden over. He seems to be more consistent in his second innings, compared to the first innings he played in Hyderabad. The delivery was commendable and almost resulted in an LBW, with the ball curving towards Jaiswal.

Will Macpherson's First Hour Update

The initial hour of play was quite slow, only managing to score 40 runs in a whopping 16 overs. Joe Root's bowling performance was not up to par, but overall, England played a tidy game, particularly Shoaib Bashir. As usual, Ben Stokes was rotating bowlers rapidly. Root and Tom Hartley only bowled a single over each during their last three spells.

India Off To A Flying Start With 40/0 In Over 16

India has calmly crossed the 40 runs mark without any major concern in the initial hour of their game.

India Off To A Strong Start With 39/0 In Over 15

Hartley is back, so Stokes might be making an effort to prevent India's batters from finding a steady rhythm against his bowlers, just like England's bowlers don't want to face a strong opening pair consisting of both right and left-handed batsmen. Rohit moves down the pitch, but Hartley throws it wide and the ball is stopped on the off-side. Hartley manages to get away with a full toss as Anderson dives and stops the ball at midwicket. England isn't showing much promise of taking a wicket, but India isn't pulling too far ahead either.

India Off To A Good Start: 37/0

Bashir experienced the first instance of conceding a boundary when Jaiswal struck him hard for four runs. This occurred because Bashir delivered the ball a little off-center and not quite long enough.

India Scores 32 Runs With 0 Wickets At Over 13

Joe Root comes back to bowl from the opposite end and Jaiswal wastes no time in hitting him for a four through the covers. This takes Jaiswal's score to 20 off 43 balls. The other team only scores four runs during this over.

India Leads With 28/0 In The 12th Over

Shoaib Bashir is all set to bowl at Test match level for the first time. Surprisingly, this is only his seventh first-class cricket game. England seem to have spotted some potential in him, which is quite amazing considering his limited experience in the field.

What are our initial thoughts? The bowler is positioning himself farther from the middle of the pitch when facing a left-handed batsman, which could make them uncertain about whether the ball will turn or glide and whether they ought to hit it. Despite this, the bowler is very close to achieving a maiden over (meaning no runs are scored off of his six deliveries), but Jaiswal manages to hit one towards the leg side to prevent that from happening. Nevertheless, it is still a clean and disciplined beginning from the bowler.

At the same time, Scyld Berry is of the opinion that India's tail end is quite formidable. However, he wonders if England can manage to take more than a single wicket during each session on a pitch that is quite slow and then quickly get rid of the remaining ones in a cluster.

India Off To Solid Start: 27/0

England's Tom Hartley, who shone in the first Test match, will take over from James Anderson. India must figure out a new strategy against him, as they had a lot of success against him in the first innings of the first game. The left and right-handed combination of the opening pair could pose a challenge for spinners early on. Although there may be some grip for right-handed Rohit, it shouldn't be a concern as he drives the ball behind square on the off-side. The last delivery appears to hit Rohit's pads, possibly due to an inside edge. The over ends with four singles being scored.

Jaiswal And Rohit Set India To 23/0

India is gradually accumulating runs, although the amount is not overwhelmingly high. Except for Root's first over, where there was some aggression, the home team has been cautious. However, this caution can still be considered moderate in comparison.

India Off To A Good Start: 20/0

Rohit managed to hit a really impressive shot straight down the field, but unfortunately, it only earned him one point because Anderson stopped it with his left foot. The last ball of the game was quite tricky, as it moved in a diagonal direction across the left-handed Jaiswal and just missed hitting the edge of his bat by a very small margin. Although Jaiswal could have tried to play the ball within the boundary, it was still quite a well-executed play by the opposing team.

India Starts Strong: 19/0

India scored two singles when Anderson missed a field at backward point. He was on his knees and the ball went past him. They also got a couple of runs due to his misfield. The over ended with four runs. There was nothing too worrisome in the over except for a couple of balls that moved off the seam. Root hasn't been a threat yet in the eighth over.

India Off To Solid Start: 15/0 After 7 Overs

The English team believes they've made progress. Maybe a combination of the bat and pad caused the ball to go to the fielders behind? However, they choose not to request a review since the ball only hit the pad and was not a leg before wicket (LBW). Furthermore, the ball was too high for consideration. Anderson manages to get some sideways movement but not enough bounce or swing. Despite this, Anderson secures a maiden over.

India Off To A Decent Start: 15/0

Root manages to avoid two poorly delivered balls in the over, one being a full-toss and the other dropping short. Thankfully, the over concludes with a well-executed delivery.

Nick Hoult Visits Vizag

In a recent column for Telegraph Sport, Sir Geoffrey referred to Rohit Sharma as outdated. Despite scoring four Test centuries in the past four years, Rohit was benched for a time due to his lack of fitness, which disappointed Kohli. This week, Indian media ran with Boycs's comments repeating the same sentiments. The current pitch conditions coupled with winning the toss present an ideal opportunity for Rohit to shoot back and make a strong statement.

India Off To A Strong Start - Score 14/0

Anderson delivers a nip-backer (also known as back-nipper) to Rohit, but unfortunately, Rohit gets an inside edge that hits his pad. Have you noticed Anderson's hair? It's a fresh tribute to the highlights he had at the start of his career that was more than 20 years ago.

Regardless, there was only one run scored during the third Anderson over, but it was a well-executed one.

India Off To A Steady Start: 13/0

India didn't face much trouble during the initial overs, with Root maintaining a good line and length. The over only resulted in one run towards Rohit.

India Starts Strong: 12/0

Rohit hit his first run on the second ball of the game by tapping the ball gently outside the off-stump while standing on the back foot. He executed the shot perfectly as he didn't apply too much force and the ball almost made it to the deep point boundary, but he managed to score three runs. He played the shot precisely by angling the bat. Rehan Ahmed, who was positioned on the boundary, fielded the ball skillfully. The best ball of the day was played by Anderson who bowled to Jaiswal, and he missed it while trying to push the ball across. The ball kept low and moved erratically after bouncing, making it difficult for the keeper. The over ended with a decent finish.

India Leads By 2 With A Score Of 9/0

Joe Root starts bowling the second over, while Jaiswal is on strike. He takes a risky shot at a delivery outside the off-stumps, without bothering to adjust his feet. The ball flies in the air but luckily lands in an empty spot, rolling towards the boundary for four runs. Did we just witness some Jasball there?

He attempts to hit the second ball, which is more direct, but fails to connect with it. Jaiswal receives a fourth ball which is forceful and slightly elevated, but predominantly stays close to the ground as it travels towards deep point for another four points.

India Leads By 1 Against Rohit With Jaiswal Scoring 1

As written by Will Macpherson, James Anderson is indeed the one who will bowl the opening over. Macpherson also notes that the end from which Anderson is bowling, the Dr Vizzy End, has a particularly interesting name among cricket fields worldwide. On his first ball, Anderson's ball goes slightly towards the left side, but on the second, he adjusts well and goes across the left-handed batsman. Although it's close to a maiden over, the batsman Jaiswal is able to maneuver one to the leg side, thereby scoring his and India's first point.

Nick Hoult Returns To Vizag

I am taking my second test in Vizag. I had come here eight years ago when England lost badly. There are two things I remember from that match. Firstly, Jimmy Anderson was the first England player to get a king pair in a Test cricket match. Secondly, a dog disrupted the play for so long that it resulted in an early tea. England didn't perform well at all.

Duckett received instructions to defend his team for 48 hours, but unfortunately, he did not manage to do so for very long. It took him six years to return to playing. This week, during training, it was observed that the Indian batters were focusing extensively on practicing the sweep shot, which is not typically their go-to shot. One might wonder if they have been inspired by Duckett’s tactics.

"Play Begins In Five Minutes"

One might predict that James Anderson will start the game with the new ball, but I believe it won't be long before we witness Tom Hartley or newly introduced player Shoaib Bashir taking over.

Macpherson Visits Vizag City

Hello from Vizag, a pleasant small cricket field surrounded by rough hills in India. The playing surface appears to be even, but England anticipates it will deteriorate over time, making it an unfortunate toss for Ben Stokes to lose. Nevertheless, he must be optimistic.

The Indian cricket team has brought in three new players, but two of them were not by choice. Mohammed Siraj has been given a break and will be substituted by Mukesh Kumar, while Kuldeep Yadav will replace Ravindra Jadeja as the wrist-spinner. A newbie to the team, Rajat Patidar, will also fill in at middle order in place of KL Rahul. This squad is one of the most inexperienced Indian batting lineups ever seen.

In the English team, there is a new player named Shoaib Bashir who is making his debut. He plays for Somerset and his teammate Jack Leach had the honor of officially welcoming him to the team by presenting him with his cap this morning.

Remembering Our Teams

"We were set to go up to bat for the upcoming game. Last week was fantastic, but that's behind us now. We're fully aware that India will put up a strong fight. While coming back from behind is satisfying, we're focusing on this new week and starting fresh. Playing in India is a unique and thrilling experience, with an incredible atmosphere. This also provides young players with fantastic opportunities that will benefit them in the future."

India Wins Toss In Cricket Match

...and they are getting ready to hit.

According to captain Rohit Sharma, the pitch appears to be favorable and will behave accordingly. To emerge victorious, we simply need to play exceptional cricket. While we can draw inspiration from our previous match in Hyderabad, it's crucial that we promptly put it behind us and focus on the upcoming challenge.

"Toss Happening Soon"

The broadcasting of TNT Sports has commenced from a studio situated in Sweden and we can finally lay our eyes on a few familiar people this time around, including Steven Finn, Sir Alastair Cook, and Kate Mason.

Stokes Picks Anderson For Second Test With Good Reason

At the age of 41 and having played in 183 matches, James Anderson can still face unexpected challenges in Test cricket.

He has been the mainstay of England's pace attack for many years. However, now he has to shoulder the entire responsibility of the pace attack as he is the only seamer in the side for the first time ever. This responsibility has been passed onto him by Mark Wood for the second Test in Vizag.

Anderson has been chosen to lead the team. Stokes understands that he might require someone to bowl accurately in Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, and Shoaib Bashir, since Wood's fast pace didn't work in Hyderabad. Wood couldn't take any wickets and gave away 62 runs, but it was a tactical choice, as he is healthy.

Recall Last Week's Highlight?

Without a doubt, you want England to win. It's likely that if they do win, it won't be as difficult as their comeback from being 190 runs behind in the first innings in Hyderabad. This particular feat is only the 10th time in Test cricket history that a team has managed to overturn such a large deficit and still secure a victory.

Greetings, we are here to update you on the ongoing second Test of the England in India five-match series happening in Visakhapatnam. England's remarkable feat in the first Test at Hyderabad cannot simply be ignored. Despite being behind by around 190 runs in the first innings, they managed to secure a 28-run win thanks to an exceptional performance by Ollie Pope and an outstanding seven-wicket haul from debut left-arm spinner Tom Hartley.

The weakened India team presents a great opportunity for England. Just like in Hyderabad, the absence of Virat Kohli is a significant loss for India. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, who have both been performing well, won't be playing in this match. It's rare for visiting teams to have such a favorable situation, and England is feeling very positive and confident about the possibility of going 2-0 up.

England has a player injured. Jack Leach hurt his left knee in the first Test and although he could still bowl in the second innings, he won't be able to participate. Shoaib Bashir, a tall off-spinner who had visa problems and missed the first Test, will take his place. Although he's only played in six first-class games, England believes in his potential. With Ben Stokes as captain, Bashir will probably get a lot of overs to bowl.

According to Captain Ben Stokes, the batting surface will be favorable for a day or two, and then it might disintegrate due to high temperatures.

Stokes stated that they were aware of their desired outcome from the beginning. They examined the pitch yesterday and re-evaluated it today to ascertain the alterations that have occurred over time.

For me, it's not a problem that Bashir has been absent from the group for a while and is returning to make his debut. I am not concerned that he has forgotten how to bowl, so there's no need for discussions on that subject.

There is just one more modification to report: Mark Wood will exit the squad, and James Anderson will take his place, striving to enhance his record of 690 wickets in his 184th Test match. In any event, I believe that this will be an entertaining match. The toss is scheduled to happen soon.
