Brilliant Bumrah blows England away in second Test

India vs England

During the second day of the five-day match at Visakhapatnam, England player Ollie Pope was not able to defend against an impressive yorker from Jasprit Bumrah. India scored a total of 396 runs with Jaiswal scoring 209 runs while Anderson, Ahmed, and Bashir took three wickets each. In response, England managed to score 253 runs with Crawley scoring 76. However, Bumrah's exceptional performance of taking six wickets and Kuldeep's 3 wickets helped India gain a lead of 171 runs. You can view the full scorecard for details.

On the second day of the second Test in Visakhapatnam, India's Jasprit Bumrah delivered an outstanding performance of reverse-swing bowling that caused England to suffer greatly.

Bumrah's incredible performance on the pitch saw him take 6-45 during a destructive period of play. He bowled magnificently both before and after the tea break, stunningly demolishing Ollie Pope's middle and leg stumps with an unbeatable in-swinging yorker.

Although Zak Crawley played admirably for 76, his sloppy attempt at batting against Axar Patel paved the way for Bumrah and spinner Kuldeep Yadav to dismantle England's middle order. Ultimately, the visiting team lost six wickets for only 68 runs.

Ben Stokes made a comeback by scoring 47 runs, but he was bowled out by Bumrah. Bumrah went on to take his fifth wicket when Tom Hartley was caught at first slip. Finally, James Anderson was given out lbw and England's innings came to an end with a total score of 253 runs.

India took a lead of 143 in the first innings after getting bowled out for 396 in the morning.

At the age of 22, Yashasvi Jaiswal accomplished the feat of being the third youngest Indian man to score a double century in a Test cricket match. However, his innings came to an end after being caught by Anderson, who was among the three players, including Shoaib Bashir and Rehan Ahmed, to take a total of three wickets.

Jaiswal stepped into the batting crease once again just before the end of the day's play. He was accompanied by the team's captain, Rohit Sharma, and together they managed to take India's score to 28-0. With a lead of 171 on this pitch, it would be nearly impossible for any team to chase a target of 300 or higher.

England Seeks Another Turnaround

The situation for England is looking bad right now, but they're not as far behind on first innings as they were in the first Test in Hyderabad. In that game, they ended up giving up 190 runs, but still managed to come away with a remarkable win.

The significant variation here is that England will have the final batting turn on a pitch that appears inevitable to worsen.

Jaiswal deserves immense praise for his performance as India's other batsmen failed to exceed 34 runs in the first innings. Despite their best efforts, the team's run total was only average and England had a chance to secure a dominant position through their own batting.

When Crawley got out, everything changed and India started dominating with Bumrah's abilities and Kuldeep's cleverness. It was a significant moment.

Stokes has been a savior for England on many occasions, hence there was still optimism till the captain was batting. However, in the end, even he was helpless against the exceptional performance of Bumrah.

It requires courage to dismiss England, but revivals like Hyderabad only occur once in a lifetime. The visitors currently require their second turnaround within seven days.

Bumrah Dominates England Attack

On Crawley's 26th birthday, he played with a lot of grace and style and contributed 59 runs with Ben Duckett and 55 runs with Pope.

He hit some beautiful straight drives, two powerful sweeps that resulted in six runs, and even managed to dance his way to scoring four runs by clipping the ball bowled by Axar. However, in his attempt to repeat the success of the previous ball, Crawley lost his form and ended up miscuing the ball. The ball was caught by Shreyas Iyer who had to make a tough catch while running backwards over his shoulder.

India realized that the ball was reversing and promptly summoned Bumrah, who showcased an even stronger performance compared to a comparable spell he had previously executed in Hyderabad last week.

Joe Root was struggling with his technique and unfortunately hit an edge, while Jonny Bairstow wasn't able to resist the temptation to drive needlessly. However, the most impressive moment was the delivery to Pope, which curved towards his toes at an impressive speed of almost 90mph, leaving the striking sight of one remaining stump and two stumps lying on the ground.

On the opposite side, the left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep came in place of the injured Ravindra Jadeja. He was able to get the ball to move unpredictably by skidding and popping. Duckett poked at the ball and it went straight to the fielder at silly point. Ben Foakes made an attempt to hit the ball but ended up getting bowled and Ahmed simply tapped a poorly delivered ball straight to the fielder at short mid-wicket.

Stokes responded, therefore Bumrah was called on once more. After only two deliveries, Bumrah managed to make one move in swiftly towards the off stump, causing Stokes to release his bat and express his irritation by throwing his hands up in the air.

Hartley managed to score a total of 21 runs, which included a six, but Bumrah's performance was exceptional. During the game, Anderson was able to contribute 19 runs along with Bashir, and although he was able to survive one attempt at an lbw review, he wasn't so lucky when he was later bowled by Bumrah, who was able to claim his sixth wicket.

India Bats Twice In One Day

The second morning of India's batting was really exciting for 90 minutes. Jaiswal, who had scored 179 runs from the previous day's score of 336-6, was very aggressive, and Anderson was very skilled in handling the new ball.

Jaiswal hit Bashir out of the park twice for six runs each time before executing a sweeping shot that resulted in four runs, bringing him to a total of 200 runs. As a celebration, he took off his gloves and helmet and blew kisses to the spectators.

Anderson and Ravichandran Ashwin had an argument before Ashwin was caught out. Later on, England prevented Jaiswal from scoring much before he was caught by Bairstow at deep cover. Ahmed caught Bumrah at slip while the new player, Bashir, caught Mukesh Kumar in the same way at number 11.

Considering the overall situation, the circumstances, and England's impressive score of 114-1, it's unlikely that India would have been able to bat again before the end of the match with such a significant lead.

Upon being presented with the chance, Jaiswal and Rohit were determined to capitalize on it by scoring runs at an impressive rate of nearly six per over. This enabled them to create a strong foundation upon which they could construct a substantial lead that would lead to victory in the game on Sunday.

'We're Still In It' - Response

Jasprit Bumrah, an Indian cricket bowler, shared in an interview with TNT Sports that he was motivated by renowned bowlers who used reverse-swing techniques to deliver excellent bowls during his formative years.

My ultimate goal has always been to play Test cricket. Whenever I feel fatigue or encounter adversities, I remind myself that I am fulfilling my long-standing aspiration and I will always strive to perform to the best of my ability.

Zak Crawley, the England batsman, shared his opinion on TNT by stating that the opposing team played exceptionally well. He expressed that Jaiswal's performance was outstanding and that Bumrah's skills as a bowler were remarkable. Crawley acknowledged that Bumrah delivered some almost impossible to hit balls.

I believe that we still have a significant chance of winning. We have faith in our ability to pursue a target on either the fourth or fifth day.

Steven Finn, the ex-England bowler, commented on TNT that when you face Bumrah as a batsman, you feel unsettled as he can take the ball in any direction he chooses. He is an extraordinary bowler who poses difficulties in getting ready to face him.
