IND vs PAK, T20 World Cup 2024: India script incredible turnaround to stun Pakistan in low-scoring thriller

IND vs PAK

On Sunday, at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, the men's cricket team of India made a remarkable comeback to defeat their long-standing rivals, Pakistan, by six runs in their second match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Group A.

India was asked to bat first by Pakistan and they had a difficult time with their batting performance, getting dismissed for a mere 119 runs in 19 overs. The only bright spot was Rishabh Pant who was able to put up a fight with his 42 runs off 31 balls. However, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf were successful in taking three wickets each in the process.

Pakistan was looking like the winner while trying to reach a small target, but things turned around in the 15th over when India's fantastic bowling prevented them from scoring more than 113. Remarkably, India managed to defend this score, marking the first time they have done so in a T20I match.

India's innings had a delayed start due to rain. However, they had a difficult start with the loss of Rohit Sharma, who scored 13 runs and Virat Kohli, who was only able to score 4 runs. This resulted in India having a challenging score of 19/2.

In Nassau County, the pitch was wet from the rain. This made it easier for the bowlers to grip the ball. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel batted carefully and were able to build a strong partnership. However, Axar Patel lost his wicket to Naseem.

Rishabh Pant was determined to play aggressively, but India experienced a constant loss of wickets from the opposite end. Suryakumar Yadav (7) and Shivam Dube (3) were two of those players who were dismissed in quick succession.

Following Mohammad Amir's successful dismissals of Pant and Ravindra Jadeja (who received a score of 0), India's batting line-up was experiencing difficulty with a score of 96/7.

Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj were unable to make a late comeback, resulting in India’s innings concluding at 119 runs in 19 overs.

At the start of the game, Jasprit Bumrah scored a crucial wicket for India by dismissing Azam (13) in the fifth over. Usman Khan (13) and Mohammad Rizwan then managed to push Pakistan's score past 50, but Axar soon got Usman Khan out with a leg-before-wicket (LBW) trap.

Pant's incredible catch played a crucial role in sending Fakhar Zaman packing, providing India with a chance to take control of the game. Bumrah's return in the 15th over widened this opportunity even further as he bowled the perfect delivery to dismiss Rizwan and shatter his middle stump on the very first ball.

At the last five overs, Pakistan had a small advantage due to having more wickets left, even though they needed 37 runs to win.

Axar rigorously followed up, allowing only three runs, putting pressure on Pakistan. Hardik took advantage of this opportunity by dismissing Shadab Khan (4) and sending him back to the dugout.

Pakistan required 30 runs from the last three overs, and to win, they had to increase their pace. However, the Indian bowlers managed to prevent them from doing so and achieved an impressive triumph. Bumrah was the standout performer, obtaining three wickets and conceding only 14 runs in his four overs.

India's win put them in first place in Group A, having accumulated four points over two games. Conversely, Pakistan suffered their second consecutive defeat.

On Wednesday, the Indian national cricket team for men is set to battle against the United States team in the upcoming match of the T20 World Cup at the same location.

In a recent matchup between India and Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024, India emerged victorious with a score of 119/10 in 19 overs. Rishabh Pant led the way for India with a strong performance, scoring 42 runs, while Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf also contributed with 3 wickets each. Despite a valiant effort by Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 31 runs, Pakistan fell short with a score of 113/7 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the star player for India, taking 3 wickets and helping secure the victory by a margin of six runs.
