Scrutiny Surrounds Boxer Imane Khelif's Gender
In an unexpected development, the gender identity of Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who recently claimed gold in women's boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, is now the subject of controversy following a leaked medical report. This report, obtained by French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia, reveals that Khelif has internal testicles and XY chromosomes, suggesting a condition known as 5-alpha reductase deficiency.
In June 2023, specialists from the Kremlin-Bicetre Hospital in Paris and the Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers put together a report. This document details Khelif's biological characteristics, including the presence of internal testicles and the absence of a uterus. An MRI also showed that Khelif has a micropenis, according to reports from Redux.
This information isn’t exactly surprising since it was already made public that Khelif has XY chromosomes. In 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) prohibited the boxer from competing in the World Championship Gold Medal match held in New Delhi.
Outrage Erupts Over Imane Khelif's Leaked Medical Report
In response to the report, numerous users on X criticized Khelif, with one person saying, “He should be arrested for assault.”

Khelif's Gender Sparks Election Debate In The US
Donald Trump highlighted Khelif's situation in an advertisement meant to criticize the gender-based sports policy of the Biden-Harris administration, making Khelif's gender a topic in the election. When questioned about their views on transgender matters, Republican figures like Vivek Ramaswamy and JD Vance also expressed that they would not allow men to compete in women's sports.
In reaction to the gender debate, Khelif previously expressed that she is a woman. "I am just like any other woman. I was born a woman, I live as a woman, and I am recognized as such." She indicated that the controversy, fueled by figures like former US President Donald Trump, author J.K. Rowling, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has significantly affected her. She mentioned Rowling and Musk in a formal complaint to French authorities concerning alleged "serious cyber harassment."
