Driver 'rushing to get to IKEA' caught doing 117mph on foggy motorway
Police reported that a driver eager to reach Ikea for the sales was recorded traveling at 117mph in foggy weather on the M60.
A police patrol noticed a red Audi driving fast on the motorway near Stockport. The vehicle was eventually stopped in the nearby area of Tameside, where the driver explained to the officers that he was in a hurry to reach Ikea.
The Swedish furniture store known for its flat-pack offerings, located near the M60 in Ashton under Lyne, is currently hosting a sale that runs until January 12, featuring discounts of up to 60% on select products.

However, it seems that the journey to the Swedish home goods retailer might turn out to be pricier than the driver anticipated, as he is now required to go to court to clarify his behavior.
The North West Motorway Police, responsible for overseeing Greater Manchester and nearby regions, shared a tweet today (Friday, December 27) featuring a picture of the Audi after it had been stopped.
In a post on X, the police reported that a driver in an Audi was spotted by GMP motorway patrol traveling at 117 mph on the M60 in Stockport, despite extremely poor visibility caused by fog.
The driver said he was hurrying to reach IKEA. However, that’s not an acceptable or justifiable excuse. He will have the opportunity to present his case in court and explain his behavior.
Previously, the account had alerted drivers that there were areas in the region experiencing fog, which was impacting visibility.

As fog persists and creates difficulties on the roads, the Met Office has shared its assessment regarding the likelihood of snow in the next few days. The temperatures are expected to hover around 7C in the north west, with fog and mist expected to linger.
Weather experts at the Met Office have alerted the public that significant snowfall may impact certain regions of the UK in the coming week, accompanied by a marked decrease in temperatures.
After a fairly warm Christmas, a cold spell is expected to arrive before the new year, possibly bringing snow to some areas.
In the days ahead, the Met Office predicts that the UK will experience mostly cloudy and mild conditions. By the end of the week, rain is likely to impact parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, while the extreme northwest can anticipate clearer but cooler weather, according to the Manchester Evening News.
