Jon Stewart has shared his thoughts on why he feels comfortable with Joe Biden granting a pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, concerning his criminal convictions.
The current US president, with less than two months remaining in his term before Donald Trump assumes the presidency, has given his son leniency for serious gun and tax offenses—contrary to his previous promise not to do so.
In June, Hunter, aged 54, was found guilty of three federal gun offenses connected to his purchase of a weapon in 2018. Then, just three months later, he admitted to nine federal tax offenses in September.
Although Whoopi Goldberg has supported Biden's decision, stating that it's common for presidents to issue pardons that raise eyebrows, many people are especially annoyed with him because he had previously stated he wouldn't do this.
Stewart talked about the topic on The Daily Show, saying on Monday (December 2): “We were almost there, man. But you know what? That's alright. It's fair, and he has the right to make that decision. He's 82 years old and doesn't want to spend his remaining years visiting his son behind bars.”
The main reason he's not overly concerned is that he feels "Republicans tend to skate by with this kind of behavior constantly."
Stewrat commented, “I believe the pardon is a carefully crafted and thoughtfully worded farewell message expressing kindness for someone dear.”
He then made a joke about Biden's comment where he mentioned that the pardon included offenses that his son "has committed, might have committed, or been involved in."
He mentioned the various universes and timelines present in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), joking, “I can’t believe Biden didn’t say something like ‘on Earth 1 or any other Earth in the multiverse.’”

Goldberg highlighted Trump's extensive list of pardons while talking about Biden's choices on The View.
"They always seem to grant pardons, so I don't understand why there's such an outcry this time," Goldberg remarked.
However, fellow panelist Alyssa Farah Griffin responded to this notion, highlighting that she has a close family member who has struggled with addiction and has spent time in and out of jail. This family member has been unable to clear their criminal record, making it difficult for them to find better job opportunities.
Griffin, who used to work on Trump’s White House communications team, stated that Hunter's pardon reinforces the belief among many people in the country that those in positions of power follow a different set of rules.
Goldberg mentioned that Biden may have reconsidered his stance after previously stating he wouldn’t grant his son a pardon. She shared her thoughts with the panel, saying, “I believe Biden initially had no plans to pardon Hunter.”
He mentioned that as more events unfolded, he started questioning why he was putting in so much effort to stay on track and do the right thing when nobody else seemed to care.
