ITV has a new period drama for us: Hotel Portofino, with the new series following the hotel-owning Ainsworth family in 1920s fascist Italy.

The series was previously only available for viewers to stream on BritBox but, after proving to be a hit, it will be coming to ITVX.

Hotel Portofino is created and written by Matt Baker, whose previous work includes Channel 4 series Before We Die and Britbox show Professor T.

The story follows Bella Ainsworth, whose dreams of owning a hotel in Italy are affected by scheming politicians and unreasonable guests.

Hotel Portofino also deals with marriage, widowhood, and the immediate aftermath of the first World War in Italy.

But when will it be available to stream on ITVX, and who is in the series’ cast that you might recognise from other TV shows?

When is Hotel Portofino on ITV?

Hotel Portofino was first made available to stream on BritBox this time last year, when its first season (containing six episodes) was released.

Now, a year after its initial re-release, those first six episodes are getting another push by being made available on ITVX on February 3.

The first episode will drop at 9pm tonight, with each of the next five episodes available to stream at 9pm every Friday night until March 10.

Who is in the cast?

The series’ main star is Nastascha McElhone, who plays Bella Ainsworth. McElhone is best known for her roles in The Truman Show and Californication.

Emmerdale’s Louis Healy steps into the role of Billy Scanlon, who is a bellboy at the hotel, while Dr Anish Sengupta is played by Small Axe star Assad Zaman.

Oliver Dench plays Lucian Ainsworth. Dench is a relative newcomer to British TV, having appeared mostly in American and Canadian dramas up to now.

Lucian’s sister, Alice, is played by Olivia Morris. Morris recently made waves in the 2022 Bollywood movie RRR.

The role of Constance March, nanny to Alice’s six-year-old daughter Lottie, is played by Louisa Binder in her first role on TV.

Will there be a season 2?

Season two is set for release on BritBox and ITVX later on this year, with filming taking place throughout spring 2023.

Production is reportedly moving to Croatia.

Many of the cast have had extra episodes added to their IMDb pages, indicating that production for the second season is already well under way.

As for whether there will be a third season, Hotel Portofino’s IMDb page indicates that 2023 will be the year the show finishes. But things could change again.

Watch Hotel Portofino on ITVX and BritBox.
