Wandsworth Prison: Inquiry into 'inmate and officer sex video'

HMP Wandsworth

A prison guard has been accused of committing a crime by sharing a video on social media that supposedly shows another staff member engaging in sexual activity with an inmate in a prison cell.

The Metropolitan Police said they were notified about a video that was allegedly recorded at Wandsworth Prison in south-west London.

The police department stated that no one has been taken into custody and mentioned that they are working with the Ministry of Justice regarding the situation.

The HM Prison Service stated that they do not accept staff corruption and have reported the former prison officer featured in the video to the police.

The Prison Service mentioned that they will not provide any additional comments while the investigation is ongoing.

In May, chief inspector of prisons Charlie Taylor issued a serious alert about the conditions at HMP Wandsworth.

This happened after inspectors discovered that Wandsworth was suffering from extreme overcrowding, infestations of vermin, and increasing levels of violence among prisoners.

HM Inspectorate of Prisons has chosen not to give a statement because of the time before the election.
