What Laughable Fresh Hell Is This 'Hellboy: The Crooked Man' Trailer?

Hellboy: The Crooked Man

I find it difficult to accept that the Hellboy remake starring David Harbour is already five years old and premiered before the pandemic began. This means that its disappointing $21 million box office earnings in the US (with a $50 million budget) cannot be blamed on COVID-19. The fact that it did not do well was not a random occurrence - it was a clear signal from audiences that they were not intrigued by the film.

Despite all of that, it is surprising to see a new version of the franchise being released five years later. This film doesn't seem to have been made to be successful, but rather just to maintain ownership of some intellectual property. It doesn't look promising at all. The director is Brian Taylor, known for his previous collaborations with Mark Neveldine on movies like Jonah Hex and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, both of which were huge flops. These failures caused their partnership to dissolve and left them in directorial exile for more than ten years.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man won't put Brian Taylor back on the map as a director. The short trailer shows Jack Kesy (from The Strain and Claws) as the new Hellboy, alongside Jefferson White (famous for playing Jimmy in Yellowstone) and some other unfamiliar faces. The movie seems comically terrible.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man will be released soon, but I highly doubt it will be shown in a cinema.
