Helen Worth: Coronation Street's Gail Platt to leave after 50 years
After 50 years on the famous street, Coronation Street, the actress Helen Worth has announced her departure.
Next month, Worth will be commemorating her fifty years on the show for playing Gail Rodwell, also known as Gail Platt, which she has been portraying since 1974.
The soap opera has confirmed that Gail's character will leave Weatherfield in a significant storyline involving the Platt family.
Worth, age 73, stated that at the beginning of the year, she decided to step down from her role. She then communicated with the producers, who were sympathetic and accommodating.
I feel extremely fortunate to have received such amazing scripts on a weekly basis, and also to have collaborated with exceptional actors, directors, and a talented crew.
The last half-century has passed rapidly, and I still don't believe the reality that I am departing has fully hit me.
Gail made her debut on television on July 29, 1974 and has been the focal point of many significant plots throughout the last 50 years. Her most contentious storyline arose in 1999 when her teenage daughter, Sarah, became pregnant at just 13 years old.
In the storyline, Worth's character was romantically involved with Richard Hillman, who ultimately turned out to be a killer. The dramatic end to the plot captivated an audience of more than 19 million people as Hillman intentionally drove Gail and her loved ones into a canal.
In the entire series, no other female character has been married as many times as Gail, who has tied the knot six times and therefore holds the title for the most marriages.
She has a total that is one less than Steve McDonald, a character played by Simon Gregson who has been on the show for a long time.

The famous actor from Corrie has been seen in the show for a grand total of 4,453 instances, which is pretty close to the number of appearances made by William Roache, who is 92 years old and holds the record for playing the character of Ken Barlow with 4,773 appearances since the show's debut in December 1960.
Recording for her departure sequence will commence in the following month.
