Bruce Heppenstall, the person in charge of the Drax Power Station, expressed that he hopes every person has a joyful and secure beginning to the year on behalf of the company.

The Drax Power Station has experienced a massive change since its establishment in 1973. We are excited as we approach 2024, which will be a momentous occasion for us as we celebrate 50 years of the Drax Power Station. It has come a long way and has now become the biggest renewable energy source in the UK.

According to the renewable energy enterprise, they have successfully converted four of Drax Power Station's generating units to rely on sustainable biomass, thereby making it the foremost provider of renewable energy in the UK.

The Drax power station generates 11% of the renewable electricity for the United Kingdom. This is adequate to power countless households and companies. A recent publication by Oxford Economics discovered that the power station helped the economy of the Yorkshire and the Humber region by £358m. Additionally, the plant provided job opportunities for 2,580 individuals in the locality.

Drax has big dreams for the future of the Drax Power Station - specifically, they want to implement bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) on two of their current generating units. This would mean that the Selby plant could create up to 10,000 jobs at the project’s highest point, resulting in the growth of new talents and helping to establish the UK and Humber as trailblazers in carbon removal technology.

After it becomes operational, the installation of BECCS at Drax will have the ability to eliminate 8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere on a yearly basis, successfully aiding the United Kingdom in meeting the emissions and net zero objectives by 2035.

The greeting ‘Happy New Year’ will be displayed from 5pm on December 31, 2023 till the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2024.
