From 'Missing' To Scam Artist? Hannah Kobayashi's Shocking Green Card Marriage Revealed

Hannah Kobayashi

The shocking vanishing of 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, who lived in Maui, Hawaii, has transformed into a story filled with betrayal, complicated relationships, and issues around immigration fraud.

What once seemed like a heartbreaking case of a missing person has turned out to be a fraudulent marriage for a Green Card, involving several people and leading to serious repercussions for her family.

A Network Of Lies

Hannah Kobayashi reportedly went missing on November 8, shortly after she landed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on her way to New York City. A few days later, vague text messages sent to her family raised concerns about her well-being.

Her father, Ryan Kobayashi, traveled to Los Angeles to help with the search efforts, but sadly took his own life just a few days after she went missing.

Recent information has come to light indicating that Kobayashi intentionally left the airport and entered Mexico. Reports suggest that her vanishing act was part of a complex scheme designed to enable a Green Card fraud operation with her Argentinian "husband," Alan Cacace, at the center of it.

Their marriage, which was formalized in October, was said to be a tactic to persuade immigration officials that their relationship was authentic.

In return for her assistance, Kobayashi was reportedly assured an initial payment of £12,000 ($15,000), along with an additional £12,000 to be paid after the immigration papers were approved.

"Love Square Takes Off"

Kobayashi was not alone on her journey. She was joined by Cacace, his actual girlfriend Marianne, and her former partner, Amun Miranda.

The complicated connections among the four individuals have been referred to as a "love square."

Marianne and Miranda had also entered into a staged marriage as part of the plan, which added another layer of complexity to the group's interactions.

Colleagues at Up 'N Smoke, a smoke shop located in Maui where Kobayashi was employed, mentioned that she frequently talked about her deal with Cacace, seeing it as a chance to make money.

Despite the trip, there was quite a bit of tension, as Kobayashi voiced her annoyance at having to spend her vacation alongside her former boyfriend and Cacace's girlfriend.

It's said that Marianne felt jealous of Kobayashi's closeness to Cacace, even though their relationship was strictly business.

A Vacation Becomes A Scandal

The group's strategy included capturing posed photographs at famous New York landmarks like Central Park and the Statue of Liberty to enhance the illusion of a real connection between Kobayashi and Cacace.

These pictures were meant to be proof for immigration officials. However, even with meticulous preparation, Kobayashi suddenly decided to give up on the plan and left LAX. He then crossed into Tijuana on foot.

Her vanishing sparked considerable worry, prompting her family to set up a GoFundMe page to support the search efforts.

The fundraising campaign collected more than £37,000 ($47,000) before it came to light that she had departed on her own accord. In a communication to those who contributed, her family stated they would fulfill refund requests received by December 18.

Family Crisis And Its Aftermath

The experience has significantly affected Kobayashi's family. Her father's suicide close to LAX highlighted the deep emotional consequences of her being missing.

After reaching out to them to verify her well-being, the family issued a statement that said:

"We are immensely thankful and relieved that Hannah is safe. The last month has been a challenging time for our family, and we respectfully request some privacy as we work through our emotions and begin to heal."

Uncovering A Green Card Scam

Additional inquiries showed that the relationship between Kobayashi and Cacace wasn't hidden at all. Colleagues noted that she had talked freely about her intentions and even encouraged others to get involved in similar activities.

One of my colleagues, Desiree, shared that she was initially intrigued by the idea but ultimately decided against it, saying, "It's not worth the risk of going to jail for £24,000 ($30,000)."

The deceitfulness of the marriage became clear as Kobayashi's family and friends started to connect the dots regarding the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Video evidence showed that she entered Mexico on November 12 or 13, just a few days after departing from LAX. As a result, the police ended the missing persons inquiry, categorizing her as someone who had chosen to go missing voluntarily.

A Community Left In Shock

In Maui, Kobayashi was recognized for her lively and adventurous personality. She loved attending beach parties and practicing fire dancing. Her colleagues characterized her as dedicated and dependable, with a strong passion for travel and discovering new destinations.

Nonetheless, whispers about her drug use and unstable personal connections added layers to the story surrounding her disappearance.

Though Kobayashi's return has relieved her family, her participation in the Green Card scheme raises concerns about legal issues.

Immigration fraud is a grave crime in the United States. Those found guilty may face severe consequences, such as monetary fines, jail time, and even removal from the country for non-citizens.

Alan Cacace and Marianne, the Argentine couple involved in the plan, have stayed elusive since the news broke.

In the meantime, Kobayashi's former partner, Amun Miranda, is said to have come back to Maui, though he's keeping a low profile and staying out of the spotlight.
