Si King has openly shared that he's been having a tough time since the passing of his Hairy Bikers partner, Dave Myers, earlier this year.

Myers passed away from cancer in February at the age of 66. He and his close friend, who was also his creative collaborator, combined their passions for motorbikes and cooking in a number of television programs that were broadcast on BBC One, BBC Two, Channel 5, and Good Food.

In 2022, the chef revealed that he was battling cancer, and shortly after his passing, his final show was broadcast.

At 57, King shared that he frequently experienced a strong desire to flee his sorrow, imagining himself "riding off into the sunset." However, he has chosen to continue with his life in a way that honors what Myers would have wanted.

"To be frank, the last few months have been quite challenging," he shared during an interview with The Sunday Times.

I found myself several times on the brink of hopping on my bike and riding off into the sunset.

"Keep my destination a secret. Simply leave and don't return."

There were moments when I was furious—furious at that terrible illness, at God, and really at anything that crossed my mind. Meanwhile, people kept asking what my next steps would be.

"I plan to spend some time reflecting on my life with my closest friend and consider what comes next."

"That’s precisely what Dave would have wished for. Keep moving ahead; focus on the future rather than getting stuck in the past."

In an interview featured in The Observer in June, King shared his feelings about the passing of his friend and discussed his future plans.

He dismissed the idea of carrying on with Hairy Bikers without Myers.

He stated, "It can't be a new version of the Hairy Bikers. That just won't work. It wouldn't be appropriate."

King elaborated that he is grieving not just the loss of his friend, but also the journey and experiences they had together throughout their lives and careers.

“It’s clear that I’m feeling the absence of my closest friend,” he expressed. “But there’s also a feeling of emptiness because the moments we shared together will come to an end.”

The TV host mentioned that it has only been recently, about three months after Myers passed away, that he's started to come to terms with what his career will look like moving forward.

He highlighted how crucial it is to have a professional ally, saying, “I want someone to collaborate with. I excel at understanding others. I truly care about their experiences.”
