Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard were in the spotlight of a media frenzy. The pair garnered attention for Dee Dee's claim that Gypsy suffered from a variety of severe illnesses. Through various interviews at the time, Dee Dee presented Gypsy as a helpless and dependent child in need of constant care. However, this all changed when Gypsy's true condition was revealed. It turned out that Dee Dee had been fabricating Gypsy's illnesses and conditions for years, forcing her daughter to take medications she didn't need and to undergo various medical procedures. Gypsy eventually conspired with her then-boyfriend to murder her mother, in hopes of finally gaining her freedom and independence. This case is a disturbing example of Munchausen by proxy, a rare but serious form of child abuse where a caregiver exaggerates or fabricates medical conditions in a child for their own gain.
