Manchester City Accepts Gundogan Return From FC Barcelona, Reports Transfer Expert

Gundogan

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is willing to welcome FC Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan back to his team, as reported by transfer market analyst Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned undisclosed insiders on X.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, is open to the idea of FC Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan returning to his team. This information comes from transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, who has undisclosed sources reporting the news.

Romano tweeted this morning that Pep Guardiola has given the green light for Ilkay Gundogan to come back to Manchester City.

"Pep hopes to bring Gundo back and is currently in discussions with his representatives. Initial contact was established yesterday. The ultimate decision lies with Gundogan, who also has offers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Manchester City is actively involved in the process."

Gundogan has been rumored to be leaving Barca since the beginning of the summer, but speculation about a potential departure has intensified in the past few days.

Initially, the experienced player was not included in Hansi Flick's team for the first match against Valencia. However, according to a reliable source, Gerard Romero, the reason for this decision was that Gundogan was still recovering from an injury to his face that he suffered during the second half of Barca's 3-0 defeat against AS Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy game.

Others, like Marta Ramon from RAC1, said that the choice was a way to push Gundogan to exit the team.

Barca is facing challenges with Financial Fair Play rules, and removing one of their highest paid players, like Gundogan, could help them bring in new players like Dani Olmo.

Gundogan went on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, to praise his teammates for their impressive 2-1 comeback victory at the Mestalla. Meanwhile, head coach Flick revealed details of a discussion he had with Gundogan and expressed confidence during an interview with Spanish TV that a player he once appointed as captain of the German national team will remain with the club.

On Sunday, Radio Catalunya stated that Gundogan had reached out to City, the team he played for from 2016 to 2023, to discuss a potential comeback just a few days before his situation gained a lot of attention.

Cadena SER reported that Gundogan has agreed to leave a team he only joined a year ago. It appears that City is now willing to have their captain, who led them to an unprecedented treble in 2022/2023, back in their jersey.
