England is currently playing against Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 2024 and they have a tough task ahead to guarantee a win. However, if they do manage to secure a victory, they are aware that they will need to make at least one change for their next game.

Gareth Southgate has made changes to some players during the tournament, but mostly in the midfield. If England defeats Slovakia and moves on, there will have to be some adjustments in the defensive line.

Marc Guehi received a yellow card early in the game, adding to one he received in a previous match. As a result, he will be suspended for the next game starting from the quarter-finals.

Ezri Konsa, Lewis Dunk, and Joe Gomez are the options to replace Guehi, who has been playing with John Stones in Gareth Southgate's squad.

Potential additional disciplinary issues emerged when midfielders Kobbie Mainoo and Jude Bellingham received early bookings, causing problems for the Three Lions as they were penalized by referee Umut Meler.

Even more critical was the fact that Slovakia scored first in the middle of the first half - England will need to make a comeback in order to stay in the tournament, especially after reaching the finals three years ago.

At the end of the quarter-final stage, any yellow cards received by players will be reset. However, if any player, including the duo in the midfield, who has already received a yellow card, gets another yellow card in the quarter-final match, they will still be suspended for the semi-finals. This rule applies to all previously booked players. If England progresses to the semi-finals, this suspension would still be in place.

If England is eliminated from the competition, any suspensions will not carry over to other tournaments, unless they are given for different reasons than just getting cards in a specific match.
