England's Guehi Ruled Out Of Potential Quarter-final, Leaving Southgate With Defensive Headache

England received bad news when Marc Guehi received a yellow card just three minutes into the last-16 match against Slovakia. This means he will not be available for a potential quarter-final match.

The player from Crystal Palace, who has been performing exceptionally well for England during Euro 2024, was shown a yellow card for a tackle on David Strelec.

Guehi was put in a difficult situation by Kieran Trippier and ended up fouling Strelec.

The referee decided to give a yellow card to the defender, who stopped Slovakia from starting a potentially harmful offensive play.

Guehi and Mainoo, both playing for England, were given yellow cards within the first eight minutes of the game. Mainoo, who was starting for the first time in the tournament under manager Gareth Southgate, also received a booking.

Marc Guehi got a yellow card very quickly after Kieran Trippier passed him the ball in a difficult situation.

The Crystal Palace player tackled David Strelec and stopped a threatening Slovakian offense.

Guehi was also booked during the unexciting 0-0 draw with Slovenia in the last group match for England on Tuesday.

According to UEFA regulations, if a player receives two yellow cards in different games, they will be suspended for the following match. However, any bookings will be cleared after the quarter-final stage.

Guehi not being available for a possible match against Switzerland, who defeated Italy 2-0 on Saturday, in the quarter-finals also creates a defensive problem for Southgate.

Joe Gomez, Lewis Dunk, and Ezri Konsa are all options to fill in for Guehi, but none of them have seen any playing time in Germany up to this point.

Kyle Walker is capable of playing as a center-back, but Southgate prefers to have him as the top choice for the right side of the defense.
