Finally, followers of Grand Theft Auto franchise can anticipate a set date for its sixth edition's release.
On Thursday, May 16, Rockstar Games disclosed that GTA VI would be available in the fall of 2025.
The announcement came to light when Take-Two Interactive, the parent organization of Rockstar, disclosed a loss of $2.9 billion in their latest financial quarter.
The company announced that there have been 200 million copies of GTA V sold since it was released in 2013. This makes it the second most popular game ever, after Minecraft which has sold over 300 million copies.
Due to the unauthorized leakage of the video online, Rockstar had no other option but to launch the GTA VI trailer early on 5 December. The trailer showcases a virtual version of Miami with the title of Vice City and features the song “Love is a Long Road” by Tom Petty. The trailer was a hit, receiving over 93 million views in just a single day on YouTube and set a new record for the most-viewed trailer launch.
The response to the preview was mainly favorable, as followers commended the video game's visuals and the apparent intention to center on a female lead character, which has never been done before in the series.
The Grand Theft Auto series is a highly praised and well-liked game franchise in the gaming industry. Many recent entries have been regarded as some of the greatest video games ever created.
In the month of September 2022, a person who hacks computers leaked out 90 videos and photographs of GTA 6. These clips and photographs were said to be created during the initial process of development, however, they almost proved that the game's setting would be in Vice City.
Although GTA VI is anticipated to showcase a fresh narrative, it will take place in a larger variation of the area explored in the previous Grand Theft Auto: Vice City game from the year 2002.
Reddit users have already created maps of Vice City, based on the leaked information, which they are using to make fun of the situation.
Similar to GTA V, the new released game will showcase multiple lead characters. The preview largely displayed a Latina female character named Lucia and a male lead named Jason.
It has been suggested by an individual who is knowledgeable about the game's creation process that the latest game could have its foundations in the notorious real-life wrongdoers Bonnie and Clyde.
According to sources, actor Gregory Connors from New York has been chosen to portray the character of Jason in the upcoming video game GTA VI. Even though the casting news has not been verified formally, Connors has indicated in his updated CV that he has landed a ‘lead’ part in a Rockstar game scheduled for release in 2025.
The anticipated launch of GTA VI on both PS5 and Xbox Series X is set to arrive during the autumn of 2025.
