Gillian Anderson adorned her 2024 Golden Globes Awards gown with embroidered images of female reproductive organs.
At the awards ceremony held on January 7th in Beverly Hills, California, the famous Sex Education star, who is aged 55, wore a beautiful white Gabriela Hearst gown. The dress appeared to be cream-colored from a distance but upon closer inspection, it was revealed that it had a unique design. During an interview with Deadline on the red-carpet, the talented actress from The Crown explained that the gown had vulvas on it.
When she was questioned about it, she answered, "There are plenty of reasons. Plenty of reasons. It suits the brand well."
During a recent interview with Extra on the red carpet, she shared some details about her outfit. She mentioned it was created through a partnership between Hearst and her health brand, G Spot. The dress included multiple designs of yonis, which were individually embroidered. She explained that each yoni took 3 1/2 hours to complete, and there were many on the dress. The entire embroidery process took approximately 150 hours.
The stitching on the outfit was a nod to her part as Jean Milburn, a sex therapist on the show Sex Education released in late 2023 on Netflix. Over the course of the show, Anderson's character, together with her son, a novice sex therapist named Otis played by Asa Butterfield, assists others in addressing taboos around sex and discovering their sexual identities. Due to the show's widespread appeal, Anderson has embraced the principles of her character and regularly supports sex-positivity via her social media accounts.
According to the statement she gave to British Vogue, she has been showcasing yonis on her Instagram since the release of Sex Education on Netflix. Additionally, her brand's slogan is 'prioritize pleasure,' so she desired to integrate this concept into her design. She expressed her gratitude that Gabriela was willing to accept the challenge.
According to Hearst's Instagram post, the stunning dress was given the name "vulvaliciously chic". The post explained the creative process behind the dress, mentioning that it was made in New York City. The embroidery was created in the garment district, and the gown was put together in the in-house studio. Each design on the dress took about 3.5 hours to embroider.
The actor from X-Files also shared with the publication that the dress had a lining on the inside that kept her warm, which turned out to be a good thing since it was windy in Los Angeles that night. She supposedly completed her outfit by adding some Chopard jewelry, a handbag, and shoes from Aquazzura.
Anderson posted on social media with the hashtag "yonioftheday @goldenglobes style" while sharing a video of her walking confidently in a hotel hallway. She also shared pictures of herself eating a quick snack while giving fans a sneak peek into her glamorous process. In one of her posts, the actor mentioned that sometimes all you need is a sausage to go with your stunning yoni dress.
