Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Ending and Post-Credits Scene Explained - IGN

Ghostbusters

To put it in straightforward terms, if you're curious about whether Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has any scenes after the credits, the scoop is that there's a mid-credits scene that's worth staying for. So, don't miss it and keep watching after the credits begin!

WARNING: If you haven't seen the movie yet, be aware that the following text will reveal important plot details.

The original Ghostbusters were brought back to life for a new generation three years ago in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The movie focused on the family of co-founder Egon Spengler (played by the late Harold Ramis), with his granddaughter Phoebe (played by McKenna Grace) leading the way as a science prodigy. Callie (played by Carrie Coon), Trevor (played by Finn Wolfhard), and Greg (played by Paul Rudd) completed the family unit. The movie was a huge success, earning over $200 million on a $75 million budget, which led to a sequel. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings both the old and new generations together, with the original surviving Ghostbusters, Winston Zeddemore (played by Ernie Hudson), Ray Stantz (played by Dan Aykroyd), and Peter Venkman (played by Bill Murray), taking on bigger roles this time around and returning as heroes. Fans of the franchise will not want to miss it.

In the new movie, the Ghostbusters have returned to New York City. Both the old and new generations join forces to put an end to Garraka, an ancient demon from hell who has been confined inside a brass puzzle ball. However, as expected, Garraka manages to escape! Now, let's delve into the ghost-hunting affair and discuss how Phoebe and her squad of ghostbusters, along with their family, save the city.

How Ghostbusters Ended Frozen Empire Explained

In New York, there were sweet and funny ghost pranks until Phoebe decided to use Winston's ghost equipment to separate her spirit from her body to get closer to her ghost friend, Melody. Unfortunately, Melody had a hidden agenda and wanted to use Garraka to possess Phoebe's spirit and force her human body to say certain words that would set him free. This plan was successful and caused a harsh and deadly winter in Manhattan, which was previously a warm summer. Both the old and new Ghostbusters unite to face the demon at the famous firehouse.

The situation looks bleak as the Ghostbusters become frozen while inside the firehouse due to Garraka's attack which releases 40 years worth of ghosts onto the streets of New York City. However, the team has a secret weapon - Nadeem Razmaadi, who is a hilarious slacker played by Kumail Nanjiani. It turns out that Nadeem is actually the latest in a line of fire masters who protect the orb that prevents Garraka from causing an evil winter apocalypse. Even though Nadeem tried to sell the orb to Ray and caused havoc in the process, he manages to make use of his family heritage and control some fire. This enables Phoebe, who has an enhanced proton pack covered in brass, to defeat Garraka and trap him inside the now-empty containment unit. As a result, the firehouse becomes a personal ghost trap for Garraka. However, none of this would have been possible without the help of Melody who accepts her error in betraying Phoebe and uses a match that she always carries to assist Nadeem in controlling his fire powers. This decision eventually allows Melody to move on from the physical world as Phoebe tearfully bids her farewell.

As the end of the movie approaches, the Spengler family is spotted going on a mission to capture ghosts, suggesting that New York City has a fresh squad of heroes in charge.

When summer comes back to the bustling streets of New York City, the team exits their firehouse to enthusiastic crowds and the recognizable tune of Ray Parker Jr.'s well-known theme song. Even the mayor, who previously opposed the Ghostbusters, has no choice but to acknowledge their heroism due to the overwhelming public support they receive. To further cement this, the movie ends with the Spengler family embarking on a mission, implying that a new group of heroes has officially taken on the ghostbusting duties in NYC.

Is There A Post-credits Scene In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire?

As mentioned at the beginning of this page, there is a scene in the middle of the credits of the new Ghostbusters movie. It's a really cute scene that involves the Mini-Pufts from Ghostbusters: Afterlife stealing a giant Stay-Puft Marshmallow truck from a gas station and driving away into the night. That's pretty much all that happens, so you don't need to stay if you were hoping for a big tease for the next movie. However, if you're a fan of those scary marshmallow monsters, it's a fun way to end a fun movie. Additionally, as we'll discuss below, it could be a problem for the Ghostbusters in the future.

"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire's Sequel Setup"

We're not sure if there will be another Ghostbusters movie with the same cast and team, but the storyline in Frozen Empire allows for more tales to be told. The Spengler family is now fully equipped as the new and recognized Ghostbusters, and with Garraka having destroyed the forty-year-old containment unit, a large number of ghosts are floating around New York City for them to capture. A family undertaking the task of ghostbusting is a unique take on the story, and now that they're established, future movies could revolve around them catching ghosts without having to earn their place in the team.

Winston has opened a new center for paranormal investigations that aims to uncover the mysteries of ghosts and spirits instead of capturing them. The center presents an exciting opportunity for a spin-off series or film featuring younger characters such as Lucky, Podcast, Trevor, and Lars Pinfield, a new addition who will be played by British comedian James Acaster. Ernie Hudson will reprise his role as Winston, adding nostalgia to the fresh take on Ghostbusters narrative. The new story could also incorporate some of the humorous moments from Frozen Empire and even introduce a larger Stay-Puft Marshmallow in the mix. Overall, the possibilities are endless for exploring the fascinating world of Winston's new paranormal investigation center.

There is a lot to discover in Winston's brand new establishment that specializes in investigating paranormal phenomena. Instead of merely capturing ghosts and spirits, their main goal is to provide answers to questions that arise about these supernatural entities.

It's worth noting that the movie starts with a label from Sony called "Ghost Corps," which suggests that there may be plans for other Ghostbusters tales. It would be great if there was an animated series similar to Extreme Ghostbusters or even an animated Ghostbusters movie that creates a completely new story, similar to Sony's Spider-Verse series. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait and see what Sony and Ghost Corps have in mind.
