Petition to call a general election launches and people are all saying the same thing

General Election petition

A new petition has been started, demanding another general election, and it has already gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures. Meanwhile, reactions online have been quite similar across the board.

Over 500,000 individuals have signed the petition, which has been promoted online by figures such as Nadine Dorries.

It has exceeded the necessary number of signatures needed for the government to respond and for it to be eligible for discussion in parliament.

The petition created by Michael Westwood states: “I am calling for another General Election.”

"I think the current Labour Government has not upheld the commitments they made before the last election."

Dorries posted about the petition, saying, "Wow - that reached 100,000 signatures really fast! Let's have a General Election - Petitions."

Many individuals are backing the petition, which is not surprising given that millions were unhappy with the outcome of the recent election that brought Labour to power. One commenter encapsulated the feelings of many when they stated, "Hold a general election? We just had one, and the result was clear—time to accept it."

Another person commented: "The positive aspect for those advocating for a 'General Election' is that there will be one in four years and seven months. That's one of the advantages of living in a parliamentary democracy."

Other social media users shared similar sentiments on Twitter/X, and the petition was launched only four months after Starmer took office as Prime Minister.
