Ofcom drops investigation into Dan Wootton's GB News show

GB News

Ofcom has decided not to pursue an investigation into Dan Wootton’s program on GB News.

The news reporter, aged 40, who departed from the network in March of this year to establish his own solo platform, was alleged to have used a fake name online to offer large sums of money to coworkers in return for inappropriate content.

During an episode of his TV program Dan Wootton Tonight on July 18th of last year, he denied allegations that he used an alias and paid coworkers for explicit content, stating that those claims were completely false.

He mentioned that he had made mistakes in the past, but he denied any criminal accusations.

The regulator looked into the situation according to fairness and privacy rules, but has now closed the investigation.

A recent announcement from the regulatory body stated that they have dropped the issue regarding fairness and privacy concerns surrounding this program.

We will not be providing any additional comments following our established procedures for fairness and privacy cases.

Met Closes Investigation

In February, the Metropolitan Police ended their inquiry into Wootton.

The police department stated that they were informed about accusations of sexual crimes involving a man in his forties in June 2023.

A representative stated: "Officers examined all available information to determine if any laws have been broken."

A thorough examination was started to look into these claims. All individuals involved have now been informed that no additional steps will be taken. No one was taken into custody during the investigation.

Wootton departed from GB News following Ofcom's discovery that remarks made by Laurence Fox about a female journalist on his show violated broadcasting regulations.

Former actor turned politician, Fox, questioned "who would want to have sexual relations with Ava Evans?" during an episode of Dan Wootton Tonight on September 26, 2020.

Neither Fox nor Wootton apologized on the broadcast after making their remarks, but they later did issue apologies.
