Dan Wootton: Ofcom ends probe into journalist's GB News show

GB News

Ofcom has decided to stop its investigation into an incident on Dan Wootton's GB News program from last year where he said he was the victim of a smear campaign.

Wootton denied the allegations made against him, stating on the broadcasted show on 18 July 2023 that he did not use a fake name or pay coworkers for explicit content.

He admitted that he had made mistakes in the past, but he refuted any accusations of criminal behavior.

In February, the Metropolitan Police and Police Scotland announced that they would not be pursuing any additional actions against the presenter.

The reporter departed from the TV station in March to establish his own autonomous outlet.

Ofcom was looking into the incident based on fairness and privacy assessments.

In a public announcement, the regulatory authority stated that they have decided to drop a complaint regarding fairness and privacy issues related to this program.

According to our established guidelines for dealing with cases involving fairness and privacy, we will not be providing any additional comments.

Writing on X, Wootton expressed that he was involved in a targeted attack meant to ruin his career in mainstream media and on GB News.

"I am beyond thrilled to see the current state of GB News compared to what it used to be," he expressed, mentioning that his happiness level has never been higher.

The 41-year-old television host left GB News in March, following a decision by media regulator Ofcom that one of his show episodes violated broadcasting regulations.

He was temporarily removed from the channel in September following remarks made by actor and politician Laurence Fox about a woman journalist, which resulted in 8,867 complaints being submitted to the regulatory body.

Ofcom stated that Fox's comments were blatantly misogynistic and without any doubt.

Neither Fox nor Wootton apologized during the broadcast when the comments were made, but they later issued apologies.

GB News has been reached out to for a statement.
