Ruth Jones has told fans that the upcoming Gavin and Stacey will be the final season.

The actress who portrays Nessa, paused filming with her co-star Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, at Barry Island to have a chat with fans.

Announcing that the holiday special would be the final one, she chuckled as fans attempted to pry more details from her.

Supporters have come together in Barry and Barry Island as filming carries on this week for the highly anticipated special, which is expected to tie up all loose ends perfectly.

The actors have been greeted with enthusiastic applause from the crowds as they made appearances in the seaside town of Wales.

Nessa and Stacey were seen arriving, while Rob Brydon received a warm welcome from fans as he arrived in Barry to film the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.

Stepping out of a car with his co-star Melanie Walters, he appeared to be emotional as he greeted fans and returned to Trinity Street, where the beloved comedy was filmed.

Brydon, portraying the character of Uncle Bryn, gazed at the sky as he made his way onto the set alongside Walters, who plays Gwen.

Brydon returning to south Wales is happening just as the Gavin and Stacey cast were seen getting into character one last time for the show's final episode.

Ruth Jones, known for her role as Nessa Jenkins, and Joanna Page, who portrays Stacey Shipman, were spotted sharing a laugh as they shot scenes for the upcoming Christmas special in Barry on Wednesday morning.

Jones had on a completely black outfit, while Page was dressed in a blue denim jacket, jeans, and an orange top.

Following the start of filming, James Corden, portraying the character Neil "Smithy" Smith, was spotted engaging in conversations with residents of the town.

In an interview with BBC Breakfast this morning about shooting the last episode, he expressed, "It's amazing, it's fantastic, every bit of it, it's all so much, knowing it could be my final time here."

The popular TV show ran for three seasons from 2007 to 2010 and returned for a special Christmas episode in 2019. The episode left fans hanging with a cliffhanger as Nessa, played by Jones, proposed to Smithy.

On the TV show, Mathew Horne and Joanna Page star as the couple Gavin and Stacey, Larry Lamb plays Gavin's dad Mick, Melanie Walters is Stacey's mom Gwen who is a widow, and Rob Brydon portrays Stacey's uncle Bryn.

Ex TV show host, Corden, revealed on his Instagram on May 3 that the show will be coming back. He posted a picture of himself and Jones holding a script for the 2024 finale of Gavin And Stacey.

Corden stopped by an ice cream store to enjoy a brownie and a friendly conversation. The owner, Laura Davenport, shared with the PA news agency that it was a fantastic day.

She announced: "We enthusiastically waved at James and managed to get him to come over to the store.

"He is so nice, inquiring about the store and commenting that it is incredibly charming and unique."

"He was amazing, he even took some pictures with us – one of the girls who is part of our team is a baker, so he also tried one of her delicious brownies."

"He has been very kind to everyone, to tell the truth. He has taken photos with all the fans - so it has been a fantastic day."

Corden announced in July that he and Jones had completed writing the final episode's script.

The holiday episode in 2019 received the most viewers on Christmas night in over a decade, with an average of 11.6 million people tuning in. This made it the most-watched holiday special since Christmas Day in 2008.

By the start of the new year, 17.1 million individuals had watched the show, making it the most popular scripted program of the decade.

It proceeded to receive the impact award at the National Television Awards in 2020.
