The tourism industry in South Wales is anticipating a boost following the filming of the Christmas special for Gavin and Stacey.

Recent studies have shown a rise in online searches for "Barry Island" following the news of the Gavin & Stacey cast filming a Christmas special in the town.

Specialists at JeffBet.com discovered a 131% rise in the number of people searching for 'Barry Island' on Google in the UK during the past month.

A representative from JeffBet.com expressed their curiosity about whether Barry Island will see a lot of visitors due to the buzz surrounding the filming of the last Christmas special of Gavin & Stacey.

"Barry Island has been a popular spot for vacations for a while, but the sudden surge in online searches indicates that there are now more people keen on visiting the Welsh town to see where the TV show is filmed."

The second-to-last Christmas episode of Gavin & Stacey was watched by around 17.1 million people in 2019, making it the most popular scripted TV comedy since the Only Fools and Horses Christmas Special in 2002, which had 17.4 million viewers.

Many excited viewers have been patiently waiting for five years to see Gavin & Stacey come back, so it wouldn't be shocking if the new Christmas special breaks the record set by Only Fools and Horses.

Hype around the Welsh town grew greatly on September 1 after news spread that Ruth Jones, the creator and star of Gavin & Stacey, was seen in the vicinity.

Authors Ruth Jones and James Corden shared on Instagram on May 3 that they had completed the script for the Christmas episode and revealed that it would be the final episode of the series.

On September 2nd, James Corden posted a photo on Instagram of the famous work van driven by his character Smithy on the television show. This suggested that filming had started.

Gavin And Stacey was popular when it first came on TV for three seasons from 2007 to 2010. The 2019 special Christmas episode left fans hanging with a cliffhanger when Nessa asked Smithy to marry her.

Supporters are eagerly anticipating the conclusion of the beloved series.
