Ruth Jones says reports of Gavin and Stacey Christmas comeback are 'sadly a rumour'

Actress Ruth Jones dismissed the heavily circulated hearsay about a Christmas special for Gavin and Stacey as "unfortunately not true".

Deadline, a website that provides American entertainment news, stated that the television series will be returning for a special Christmas episode this year, following a hiatus of five years.

During an interview with Oliver Callan on RTE Radio 1, the person who helped write the show revealed that they would be happy to announce any news related to the show's filming locations in South Wales, should there be any updates worth sharing. James Corden is also involved with the show and would presumably be a part of any announcements made.

The program featured Matthew Horne and Joanna Page who played the roles of Gavin and Stacey respectively. It was televised for three seasons starting from 2007, then came back for a special Christmas episode in 2019.

In addition to writing the show together, Corden and Jones are also cast members who play the roles of Smithy and Nessa, the main characters' best friends.

The rest of the group of actors consisted of Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon, and Melanie Walters.

Jones responded to a statement made in The Sun, regarding a supposed competition between the BBC and Netflix to acquire the series, by asking "What's the source of this information?"

"After his return from the United States, we had lunch together in London a few months ago and some photographs were taken," she stated.

"And the following thought is 'Wow, they must be creating additional episodes of Gavin and Stacey', which is delightful. It's remarkable how much people adore the show and eagerly anticipate it."

The BBC chose not to make a statement regarding the matter.
