Gary Lineker: Southgate Should Demand More From Kane

Gary Lineker believes that Gareth Southgate should ask for more from Harry Kane and has said that the England captain needs to 'improve significantly.'

Even though Kane scored a goal in England's 1-1 tie with Denmark, the forward faced challenges as he struggled to get involved in the game.

The same thing happened in England's 1-0 win against Serbia in their first group match, and Lineker thinks Kane needs to do better at finding ways to open up space for himself.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Lineker expressed his thoughts on the role of a striker. He emphasized the importance of scoring goals, a task which Harry Kane has excelled at throughout his career. Lineker also mentioned the significance of creating space on the field. He suggested that Kane's manager should challenge him to do more, especially after a strong performance like the one he put in.

Playing against a formation with three defenders, he must widen the field, sprint in one direction and then quickly change direction to receive the ball closer to his teammates. By doing this, he can open up more room for the midfielders to set up goal-scoring opportunities.

Gary Lineker believes that Gareth Southgate should expect higher performances from Harry Kane.

Lineker said that Kane should widen the field and create room for his fellow players.

Lineker stated that Kane must improve significantly in terms of his overall performance.

Honestly, Harry Kane really needs to step up his game. His mobility was very limited and he wasn't attempting to make runs behind the defense. Even when he dropped back, he did so slowly and lazily, which won't benefit the team.

Kane was taken out of the game in the 70th minute and Ollie Watkins came on as his replacement.

Even though Kane has scored 64 goals in 93 matches for England, his play at Euro 2024 has not been up to par.

Kane scored the first goal for England in the 18th minute after a great play by Kyle Walker.

The manager of the England national team, Southgate, will need to think about how he can help Kane perform at his highest level.

Kane scored a goal against Denmark but was taken off the field in the 70th minute.

Yet, Denmark was able to tie the game when Morten Hjulmand scored an impressive goal in the 34th minute.

I'm curious to see if Southgate will make any changes to his tactics in England's last group stage match against Slovenia to maximize Kane's performance.
