Soccer fans watching Euro 2024 were surprised by a "severe" statement made by Gary Lineker that made Frank Lampard very angry.

On Wednesday (19 June), Lineker, who is in charge of the BBC's coverage of the tournament, was hosting the live coverage of the Germany vs Hungary match in Berlin. This was just before England's group stage match against Denmark.

Lineker is presenting the shows in a studio outside in front of the Brandenbrug Gates. On the other side not visible from the studio, a large screen is set up for people in Berlin to watch every game.

Many German sports enthusiasts had assembled to witness their country's triumph over Hungary, and Lineker, though surrounded by the jubilant crowd's reactions to Germany scoring two goals, couldn't catch a glimpse of the game because of the large screen.

Responding to this, Lineker stated: "I hope they remove that barrier so we can see all the spectators, but if they removed it, then they wouldn't be able to watch the game, right?"

In this conversation, Lampard remarked that nobody would come to see their backs. Lineker then joked that nobody is interested in seeing the back of Lampard's head nowadays.

People thought it was a joke about his hair loss, which made the former footballer look surprised. He was smiling but then looked uncomfortable when Lineker made the comment. There was an awkward moment of silence before Lineker changed the subject.

A video that has spread quickly on X/Twitter shows Gary Lineker completely outshining Frank Lampard during a live TV appearance. Lampard's expression is priceless, and the reaction from viewers is overwhelming.

Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast that he will say sorry to Lampard because he realized the joke "didn't sound right".

He mentioned that Frank and himself are experiencing some slight hair thinning, and he meant it in a general sense for everyone. However, his words may have come out wrong. He also noted that Frank tends to smile and then suddenly stop smiling.

A lot of people called the comment "savage" and pointed out the moment when Lampard understood what Lineker said. He didn't react well! One person watching wrote, "That guy had a tough time!"

"He shouldn't have treated Frank that way," someone else commented, while another football supporter added: "Gary Lineker never received a yellow card during his playing days, but that tackle definitely deserved a booking."
