The 2023 Game Awards Nominations Are In, and the “Best Game” Race Has Never Been More Competitive
Hello, gamers! We're getting closer and closer to the big event that some people are calling the Oscars of the video game world, thanks to Geoff Keighley. This is the 10th year of the Game Awards, which gives out more than 30 awards in different categories (including a strange one for Best Adaptation, for those who are obsessed with the Peacock show Twisted Metal). However, most people are eagerly waiting to find out the winner of the top prize, Game of the Year. This year's six nominees are especially impressive.
Which video game will be added to the Game of the Year list alongside God of War, Elden Ring, and It Takes Two? Let's go through the nominees for this year and discuss why they deserve or don't deserve this recognition.
Advantages: Finally, a sequel that met expectations after much anticipation. It's truly terrifying, but has moments of hilarity. Additionally, it belongs to a captivating shared universe that surpasses anything currently offered in Hollywood. It's arguably the closest we'll ever come to a video game interpretation of Twin Peaks: The Return.
Drawbacks: What happened to the release of Alan Wake III?
Advantages: This is the ultimate Dungeons & Dragons adventure you've ever experienced. You don't need to worry about rolling dice or writing things down. The game is expansive and allows you to team up with a character who transforms into a bear.
Downside: The game is massively huge and although it would have been perfect during the height of the pandemic, I have other priorities to focus on now, Larian Studios.
Advantages: Get two Spider-Man characters for the cost of one. The fighting part has become more captivating while the sensation of web-slinging is still first-rate. You can now glide your way across to Brooklyn and Queens.
Disadvantage: Temporarily transforms into a Gears of War duplicate, featuring Mary Jane as its lead character without any clear explanation or justification.
- Remaking Resident Evil 4!
Advantages: Elevated a top-tier selection in the discussion of the greatest video games ever made and impressively enhanced its quality.
Disadvantages: The side story should have been provided for free, but instead, a fee of $10 was charged.
"The Amazing World Of Super Mario Bros."
Advantages: It's been around 40 years since the first Super Mario Bros. game came out, and Nintendo still remains unmatched in delivering pure entertainment. The concept of "Mario on drugs every level" is quite amusing. Additionally, Mario can transform into an elephant now.
Negative aspect: The flowers keep making noise constantly. Mario exclaims "Wow, that's amazing!"
Legendary Zelda: Kingdom's Tears
Advantages: The follow-up to the acclaimed Zelda game has exceeded expectations and is still visually impressive, even on aging hardware. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts has finally received the recognition it deserves.
Negatives: I promise you, if that imbecile forces me to assist him in preventing his sign from falling down once again...
Make sure to watch the Game Awards on December 7th, even if it's just to witness what might happen if a group of internet troublemakers successfully triumph over the expected Game of the Year winner by rallying support for The Lord of the Rings character, Gollum.
