The most significant event in the video game industry has declared Baldur's Gate 3 as the winner of the Game of the Year award.

Receiving recognition in Los Angeles, the creator of Larian expressed that the elaborate RPG inspired by Dungeons and Dragons required a lot of dedication and passion.

Belgian studio was given the top prize which was presented by Wonka actor Timothée Chalamet.

The top prize was won by it, outcompeting Super Mario Wonder, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Alan Wake 2.

Baldur's Gate 3 won six awards in total, with actor Neil Newbon, who portrayed the beloved character Astarion, winning the award for best performance.

Alan Wake 2, the game that belongs to the survival horror genre, was the recipient of three awards namely, best direction, story and art style.

The awards come after a year in which the games industry experienced many layoffs, even though there were many games that received high praise.

Many popular game companies such as Epic Games, known for Fortnite, Ubisoft Montreal, creator of Assassin's Creed, and Niantic, known for Pokemon Go, have announced that they will be reducing their workforce.

Many people have voiced their complaints about The Game Awards, an event hosted by gaming journalist Geoff Keighley. Critics say that during the three-hour show, more time is devoted to showcasing trailers and advertisements than actually presenting awards.

This year, there have been grievances about the ceremony rushing through various accolades without granting the victors an opportunity to step on the stage.

Kotaku, a website about video games, mentioned that it would have been a kind gesture to let talented developers have their time to shine, especially in a year where they were often laid off from their work.

In total, there are 31 awards available that cover a diverse set of categories, such as audio design, best independent game, and accessibility and innovation.
