Galatasaray defeated Manchester United's Under-19s by a score of 1-0 in our latest UEFA Youth League match.
Even though Travis Binnion's team began well, the home team managed to score the only goal of the match thanks to Baran Demiroglu.
In the second half, United had a lot of possession but were unable to score in Istanbul.
Willy Kambwala is leading the Under-19 team of United.
The football match in Istanbul was affected by heavy rain, which made it difficult for both teams to adapt to the wet field. The Reds team managed to be the first to attempt a goal, with James Scanlon running down the left and taking a strong shot towards the far post. However, the ball was caught by Jankat Yilmaz's gloves.
The home team quickly found their groove and managed to score 11 minutes into the game. Beknaz Almazbekov made a tricky run down the right-hand side before passing the ball back to Demiroglu, who skillfully hit it past Elyh Harrison and put Galatasaray in the lead.
Binnion's team seemed determined to end the first half with an even score, but despite a few opportunities, they failed to challenge Yilmaz in the goal and finished the first half one goal behind.
During the second half of the game, United played better than Galatasaray for a good portion of the time. However, Yilmaz, Galatasaray's goalkeeper, was the one who made the difference. Even though Jack Fletcher tried to score from the edge of the area, his shot missed the target.
Right after rejecting Scanlon's attempt, just like he did in the beginning of the game, Yilmaz made another impressive save to keep Isak Hansen-Aaroen from scoring. He knocked the ball away to his own area and then it was cleared.
In spite of the challenging circumstances of heavy rainfall in Istanbul, United persevered and exerted more pressure. Unfortunately, their determined performance under Binnion's leadership did not lead to success.
Watch Jack Fletcher play for United.
Manchester United lined up with a team consisting of Harrison, Kingdon, Kambwala, Nolan, Scanlon, J. Fletcher, Fitzgerald (later replaced by Sharpe in the 57th minute), T. Fletcher (later replaced by Curley in the 57th minute), Ogunneye (replaced by McAllister in the 70th minute), Wheatley, and Hansen-Aaroen.
Players who didn't play in the game: Wooster, Jackson, Missin, Musa.
